Grumio Nelius

Elector Lord Grumnio Nelius

"I swear my lord, I didn't know who he was! He dint say! I could tell he was rich, aye, for sure, but the Elector Lord's son? I never dreamed one such as him would go for a girl like me. I ain't wanting much, my lord, but this here's my son, born nine months after your lord came to visit, if you catch my meaning. He's now the Elector Lord himself? I'm sure such an exalted person wouldn't want his... subjects to go hungry."
Elector Lord Grumio Nelius is the current ruler of the Elector State of Chasroth and has the dubious honour of being the youngest and newest of the Elector Lords, having been ruling for only two years.

Personal history

Most members of the Elector House of Chasroth are born in the collection of large carriages and wagons that the House uses to move around the state. Grumio Nelius, however, was born in the year in which a new Emperor of Belyos was to be chosen, and as such was born in the Imperial Capital of Belyos. Typically, Electors only spent the bare minimum of time in the capital, being eager to return to their own lands, but Grumio's mother refused to let them take a new-born on a sea journey back to Chasroth, forcing his father, Elector Lord Harpax to remain in Belyos for almost a year after the election. Whilst a road journey was possible, Harpax refused to use any form of long-distance road travel other than his own personalised carriage, which was waiting for them back in Chasroth.   As the first born son of a ruler Elector Lord, his future was set as one of the Empire's ten Electors, and although this typically discounted him as a potential Emperor, the power he would wield as an Elector was still substantial. As soon as he was able, he took full advantage of the transitory nature of the Chasroth Elector House, picking up paramours of both genders in almost every town that the caravan stopped in. It wasn't until a number of female lovers claimed that their children were Grumio's bastards that Harpax stepped in and demanded Grumio show a bit of restraint in his activities.   Elector Lord Harpax died suddenly in 1904 IY and Grumio found himself the new ruler of Chasroth at the age of 21. He apparently has not heeded his father's demands, and the list of children whose mother's claim to be Grumio's trueborn child now stands at ten. His advisors and, more significantly, his mother, have cautioned him against producing so many potential heirs to his position, should he die without formal issue, but Grumio has not ceased bedding someone new in each town the Elector Lord's caravan visits. Pressure is mounting on the young Lord to get married, but finding someone willing to overlook, or more favourably, to curtail Grumio's amorous nature will prove difficult.   Grumio has made no secret that he has no preference to gender when it comes to whom he shares his bed with. Indeed, even when several eligible women have literally thrown themselves at him, Grumio has chosen to taken another man (or two) into his bed instead. Same sex relationships are not a strong taboo amongst the upper classes in the Empire, so long as one performs one's procreational duties appropriately. It is Grumio's inappropriate procreation that is the cause of much of the discomfort with his actions.   Regardless, Grumio is loved by his people; whilst the nobility might despair at the cost of housing his procession (despite taxes in Chasroth being almost non-existent), and have concerns about his flagrant and indiscriminate choice of partners, the commoners see his arrival as the cause of celebration. Grumio delights in putting on extravagant shows, and inviting even the lowliest of people to take part in feasts at random.

Education

Grumio is educated to the best standards expected from the top of the Imperial social structure. Unlike some other regions, Chasroth lacks a formal building for higher education, but instead some of the most renowned tutors from across the Empire are brought in to offer schooling. Grumio showed higher than expected ability in most of the subjects considered necessary for a member of the ruling class, but is acutely aware that despite this, Chasroth is perceived as somewhat provincial by other states, and its leaders no less so.
