The Sailor
Human god of exploration, learning and travel.
The Sailor
The highest of observatories,
Above restricted libraries,
Gatekeeping all the heresies,
That is what the Sailor sees. The Sailor guides us to explore
To seek the truth No Journey Too Far
And travel out beyond the stars,
To the Garden we will go.The Sailor's verse from The Song of the Eight.
Divine Domains
The Sailor's alignment is True Neutral, and his portfolio includes exploration, learning and travel. His cleric domains are Exploration, Freedom, Knowledge, Legend, Liberation, Magic, Self-Realization (Liberation), Stars, Storms, Travel, Truth, Water, Wind and his favoured weapon is the Trident.
As one of the Eight Human gods, his followers expect to go to the Garden Beyond the Stars when they die, although it is uncertain whether he will be there to meet them in the Garden. Since the Eight are less personal than the Survivor deities, it is unclear whether they reside in the Garden themselves or merely guide their followers to it without any form of personal interaction.

In the Palimpsest Tarot, the Sailor constellation corresponds to the second card in the Noble Eight Suit, called the Evangelist Noble. It represents the concept of Exploration.
Sailor imagery is often associated with the theme of travel: from the sacred sycamore tree, whose winged seeds drift on the wind far from the mother plant, to the holy symbol of a sextant. The Sailor's sacred animal is the whale, an aquatic animal that only lives in the deepest waters of West Star, and therefore requires interplanar travel and exploration to encounter. Each Shipmas, followers of the Sailor make a sacred journey to the Church of the Sailor travelling by a new, increasingly obscure route each year.
Tenets of Faith
For the Sailor, knowledge and the pursuit of knowledge are particularly sacred, while book burning and the destruction of knowledge are major taboos.
Holidays
Shipmas: On Mapday, Sailormoon, followers of The Sailor complete a journey across the city to the Church of the Sailor. Each year they are expected to take a different route, meaning that younger Sailorites generally take the safer, busier and more wellknown routes, while the older followers are often find themselves on long, meandering detours across the city.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
The Sailor values exploration and finding and learning new things. His favoured heroes tend to be Academics: highly intelligent scholars, wizards and explorers who complete great feats of learning and spread the faith of the Sailor through academia.
According to Castor Stargazer, the main difficulty that Hugo Dargent and his companions will face with convicing the Sailor to join with the other gods and prevent the Apocalypse would be convincing him that not allowing the Apocalypse offers more opportunity for new experiences than actually experiencing the Apocalypse itself. But, being interested in learning and new experiences, the Sailor is likely to at least willingly listen to their arguments, unlike some of the other Eight.
