Pals Battalion

Founded by and named for Mirza-Corporal Palfrey 'Pal' Jackalslicer, Pals Battalion are the illicit followers of Conscript Hodge, the Walking Wounded.   The Jackalslicer family remained closely tied to the Pal’s Battalion even after Palfrey’s own death, and some secret Hodgian worshippers can be found in the ranks of the noble House of Jackalslicer to this day.

Divine Origins

According to the last coherent message sent to mortals by the Conscript, as interpreted by the Palfrey Jackalslicer, the Divine War ended with a casualty rate of almost 100%, leaving the Walking Wounded alone to wander an empty battlefield in the shadow of the decaying, unmanned machinery of war. It is a very quiet religion, actively discouraging and suppressing any forms of worship they consider too brash, both out of a desire to evade detection by more powerful churches that would consider them heretics, and out of a wish to avoid unduly disturbing their own goddess.

Tenets of Faith

One of the Pal’s Battalion’s primary interests, historically, has been ensuring that the Divine War cannot be restarted, which they believe to be a possible outcome of triggering the wrong sort of flashback in the mind of their deity. The Pal’s Battalion has always been keen to keep direct connection to the Walking Wounded to a minimum, and to carefully manage any connections that are made to minimise the risk of them bringing up any dangerous memories. This has led to a religious belief in the value of forgetting and letting go of the past, reflected in their official motto: “Lest We Remember”.
