Polymorphism

Causes

Polymorphism is a condition present in children from birth, the specific cause is unknown. Some originally theorised that it was caused by one parent being a 'natural' shapeshifter, a Dragon, Changeling, Shifter, but that line of thinking has since been disprooved, the condition presenting in children of two non-shapeshifters. 
The modern understanding is that some children are chosen by the Life Force of Oxdara, granting them the ability of Polymorphism.

Symptoms

The condition doesn't have symptoms persay, as that would convey the ability as negative, instead it has abilities. Unlike other types of shapeshifting present in Changelings or Shifters, Polymorphism has no true limits. Changelings can only change their appereance to look like other humanoid creatures, Shifters change between a humanoid form and a specific animal form. Polymorphism allows the afflicted to change between any type of form, either into a different humanoid species or into animals, the only exceptions being monsters and Dragons.

Cultural Reception

The reception of the condition varies from culture to culture, though most in the modern day view those with the condition either as equals or as something not to be feared. The exception to this being:

Venkan-Ori

To the Venkan-Ori those born with Polymorphism are revered as powerful warriors and leaders, being called Berserkers, able to shift between animal forms like a Druid would, or into large, strong giants to fight alongside them.

Ruizarian

Those born in the Ruizar Empire however have a more harsh viewpoint on Polymorphism. Culturally Polymorphism is seen as an afront to nature, believing only Dragons should be able to have such power of shapeshifting, and Polymorphism is a perversion of that natural ability.
