Ranks and Titles within the Great Colleges

There are 4 true ranks to the Magi of any of the Great Colleges. In descending order they are....
--Grandmaster--
  • There can only be 1 Grandmaster per college. It is the highest rank possible and is only passed on by the previous Grandmaster's retirement. The previous grandmaster chooses the next in line and a council containing the 6 wisest Masters of the College must approve. The Grandmaster is in charge of running the College and maintaining beneficial and peaceful relationships with the kingdoms of the country it's located in. They must also maintain a healthy relationship with the other colleges. Ultimately everyone who lives or works for that specific college answers to that Grandmaster and he is responsible for all of them.

--Master--
  • The Second highest rank of a College Magi. The rank of Master is given to those who have full control over their Manus and their emotions. As well as have completed many missions for the College they are from. Only Magi who are seen as extremely trustworthy, vigilant, virtuous, and level-headed have a chance at attaining this rank. Masters are officially allowed to take in students and train them at their whim. A Master ranked Magi may request the Right of Respite at the Grandmaster's discretion.

--Journeyman--
  • Journeyman is the rank just under Master, this is the rank given to Magi who have full control over their manus and a fully developed knowledge of the dangers and risks manus presents. One is not truly considered a College Magi until they reach this rank. This is the rank of the majority of Magi and where more than 70% of the Magi trained will permanently end up. Journeyman Magi are allowed to take on missions for the College either alone or in groups if necessary. Journeyman Magi also serve as tutors at the College. Instructing young students in the basics of manus, one's Od and the risks that come with it.

--Apprentice--
  • Apprentice Magi are the starting rank once a pupil has a full understanding of the basics of manus and the risks associated with using it and can utilize their manus in combative and stressful situations. This is the rank most children attain around the age of 12-16 depending on their individual talents. Upon reaching this rank they will either study and train at the College under the tutors or be taken under the wing of a Master Magi and personally trained.
There are then 3 other ranks given within the College...
--Vagabond--
  • Vagabond is the title/rank given to a Master Magi who requested his Right of Respite and was approved by the Grandmaster of their College. A Vagabond is no longer considered an acting member of the College. They are allowed to visit the Colleges themselves but are not entitled to its resources nor its assistance should the need arise. These resources includes its libraries, dwellings, and supplies. A Vagabond is still considered to be on good terms with the College. *Right of Respite - allows a Magi to walk away from College duties for personal reasons. If approved they will be temporarily relieved of their title and any special allowances afforded to that title and ranked as a Vagabond. The Right of Respite can be redacted if dire circumstances occur that put any of the Great Colleges in peril.

--Exile--
  • An Exile is a title given to any Magi who fails to uphold the College standards or breaks any of the College's Tenets. They are permanently stripped of their rank and all allowances afforded with that rank. They will have no access to the Colleges themselves nor any of its resources. Once exiled they will either be ignored and shunned or outright hunted for imprisonment or execution depending on the severity of their crime.

--Scholar--
  • A title given to those with an above apprentice level understanding and knowledge of Od and Manus but lack the physical aptitude or mental discipline to effectively utilize it. A decent percentage of apprentices enrolled end their career path here and instead live a fairly normal life at the College, studying in their off time and pursuing a better understanding of Manus and its limits.
