Personal history
Orphaned and deformed under the eye of the Cult of the Goddess Matriarch, Lakio learned to disregard those around him early and sought out the companionship of libraries, knowledgeable spirits, and forbidden tomes. After his knighting, he disappeared in the dead of a blizzard. He was gone for two years before he was found in a cave he named Solitude. He was found with the frozen corpses of kidnapped locals, undead servants, and hand-made automatons.
When brought before Jessia to stand trial, he confessed. He confessed to the kidnapping and murder of the peasants to study the process of death. The summoning and binding of their spirits as his slaves. The construction of clockwork machines built to main and kill. And the manipulation of his former peers using remote magic and illusions. He promised to continue it all in undeath, which upset the Goddess Matriarch. And so she cursed him with divine immortality to prevent him from ever reaching undeath.
