Varrisia

Ideals & Flaws

The goddess of love and revenge holds a special place in all mortal hearts for she understands the deepest desires and passions that they seek in all things. Depicted in the Canticles of Light as a nude woman lying upon a bed of flowers and thorns, Varrisia is a goddess of excess and untamed hedonism, but also a goddess of jealousy and spite. Varrisia's domains of emotion and passion make her one of the more difficult Endless to serve but she does not possess the same spark for unknowable chaos as her sibling Delhira. She can be boastful and shy, furious or serene, gratious and condescending. Much like mortals themselves her divine mind is often scattered and driven by whim, passion, and curiosity. She is perhaps the most mortal of all the Endless, and this makes her relatable, beloved, and feared.   Followers of Varrisia seek her guidance in every day affairs of the heart such as their quarrels with paramours, their guarded feelings towards a parent, and their worries for their children.   She is not a goddess whom is turned to for spirtual aid, defense, healing or miracles, but rather an outside force of council who offers insight into why these emotions drive us and in what manner they can be resolved. She shares mortal fury over a betrayal and also swells in the same limerance that newfound lovers throw themselves into in the first weeks of passion. She understands mortal jealousy, insecurity and fragile pride and is a goddess whose shoulders many have spilt their tears upon.   But only a fool would completely trust her.   Varrisia is as fickle and capricious as she is tender and she shares her bed with all mortals. There is not true privacy to be found in her bed of roses and thorns, for she is not only the goddess of love and revenge, but the goddess of wine, and gossip. She will in one hand encourage a wife to pursue her passion towards a stranger while her husband is away on a long journey, and in the other coax the betrayed paramour to hurry home and surprise her by arriving a day early.

    Temples & Priesthoods

The temples of Varrisia are brothels, and her priesthood are concubines and whores and they wear the colors of pink, blue, and white in her honor. These are sacred institutions in the world of Orr, and those who obstruct them or her priests will find themselves cursed by the goddess of revenge, most often in the form of lycanthropy.   The priesthood of Varrisia practice a very ancient form of healing. A healing of the spirit, the senses, and the pleasures and in many ways this healing is as necessary as herbal remedy for a turn of the stomach, or the stitches of a surgeon for a wound. There is also a particular rite which the Varrisian priesthood offers to those who believe themselves to have been born in the wrong body or those who simply wish to experience life as another sex for any reason. This ceremony takes several months to prepare for and in that time the priesthood will teach the individual those lessons they may not have known or learned, helping them decide if this is what they truly desire. Afterward their bodies will be changed to a more suitable form.
