Feast Days, Holidays and Special Occasions

Feast Days   A Feast Day is a holiday dedicated to the adoration of the Endless. A Feast Day occurs on the fourteenth day of each month. Generally only followers or admirers of the Endless will participate in such Feast Days, but they are also great opportunities for conversions towards the faith and so communities and cities will often have widespread events that draw in even unwilling believers. While Feast Days are often times of celebration and merriment, there is a darker aspect to them as they are days of power belonging to the Endless, acts of violence and destruction are sometimes conspired upon these sacred days to 'wound' these deities.
Panharmony (Greenspring - Novus, 14)   Panharmony is the Feast Day of the Endless, Yazmin. It is customary for friends, lovers and family to exchange small gifts of appreciation on this day. Vigils for the dead and the lost are held by clerics and followers of Yazmin on this holiday, wealthy individuals are encouraged to give towards charities, and it is customary to invite the poor, the infirm and the sick into one's home and serve them meals if there is food to spare.   Hedonall (Greenspring - Ambulan, 14)   The day of revelry, drunkenness, debauchery, gambling and eroticism. Hedonall is the Feast Day of Varrisia and is sometimes known to spill over for the remainder of the week following it due to the excessive nature of the festival. Some cities throughout the world will dispunge of its laws for a short period of time to accomodate for the Feast Day, others will close or lock down quarters of their cities where the revels are particularly rampant. Hedonall is a Feast Day celebrated not just by mortals but some strains of monsters capable of siring halfbreeds such as quicklings, fey, fiends and orcs as well as demons and devils.   Temperanos (Greenspring - Despartun, 14)   Temperanos is the Feast Day of quiet meditation belonging to the Endless, Okondu. This is a day of introspection and sagely council. Many priests and followers of Okondu will take oaths of silence during Temperanos that may extend well beyond the Feast Day or simply for its duration. Similarly it is customary for disciples of Okondu to fast from food and drink on this day, and to give away certain worldly possessions. In settlements and cities quiet crowds will often gather and meditate together, in rural areas disciples of Okondu will often seek out sacred places among the wild or tranquil spots in which to pass the hours in self reflection.   Arborlong (Flowerbloom - Puer, 14)   The day of sowing. Arborlong is the Feast Day of the Endless, Freyalise, and marks the beginning of the harvest season when the first crops will be planted. Arborlong is a day of community and family. It is a time to rally one's enterprises and work exceptionally hard. It is expected that one should toil earnestly and for as long as the body can bear upon this day so as to reap great rewards in the later year. At the end of such a well spent day of work it is customary for families and communities to hold a great and lavish banquet and for each person to clean their own plate at its finale. Arborlong is also a celebration of womanhood. Gifts are often bestowed to mothers, sisters, daughters, and other female companions in one's life. Songs are sung during such feasts, dancing is encouraged, and it is generally believed that Freyalise will offer greater fertility to those seeking children if they have exercised the hours of her Feast Day in earnest.   Creatalos (Flowerbloom - Resurgan, 14)   The Feast Day of the Endless, Baltizan, is a day of marvels, great works and architecture. Inventor's fairs are often held in dwarven holds on this day where new technologies and techniques are displayed and sometimes contested between one another. It is considered lucky to begin building new homes on this day and luckier still to complete them during Creatolos. It is said that a weapon forged on Creatlos will hold its sharpness for twice as long, that armor smithed will be of greater quality, and even that children born on this day will be of strong constitution. Creatlos inspires many sorts of festivals as the act of making and inventing is inherit in nearly all sophisticated crafts and subjects.   Fooloon (Flowerbloom - Tirrial, 14)   A day of revelry and trickery, Fooloon is the Feast Day of the Endless, Mannec and Narsus. Beware new strangers on this day for they may seek to draw your pants to your knees and expose your small clothes to a crowd. The tricks and jokes played on friends and strangers during Fooloon are encouraged only to embarrass them, not to harm. This is the favored holiday of Goblins and Sprites and they are known to sneak into cities and prepare for the Feast Day hours in advance. It is also said that on Fooloon, the mad and raving lunatics of the world may become sages.   Glorion (Goldsummer - Crescere, 14)   The Feast Day of the Endless, Kassandir, is one of tournaments and heroic deeds. Grand melees, jousting, and wizard duels are common contests on this day. This is also considered the Feast Day of christenings. The day when new kings are bestowed their crowns, the day when one may be promoted to a higher rank or position, and a day where one might be called upon for glorious missions, quests and tasks. It is also a day of war and battle. To win a victory in warfare on this day is seen as a promising sign of things to come and to lose a skirmish upon this day is a dreaded omen.   Mystari (Goldsummer - Discovos, 14)   The favored Feast Days of wizards and mages, Mystari is the holiday of the Endless, Anser, and a day where insight and new knowledge is said to be seeded into the world. On this day it is said that magic in all its immutable forms is bolstered and made more powerful by the Endless. Mystari is the day of rites and rituals. A day where the weavers of magic plan their greatest and most accomplished feats. To the land of Dalair this is a sacred, sometimes dangerous day. It is on this day that aspiring wizards will complete their trials in their respective academies and perform the tests of High Sorcery at the Circle of Nine.   Chaotium (Goldsummer - Ibrion, 14)   A day of disaster and renewal. This Feast Day of the Endless, Delhira, is accompanied by miracle and catastrophe. Earthquakes, hurricanes, plagues, erupting volcanoes and falling meteors are woeful 'gifts' that Delhira bestows the world of Orr on this day. Chaotium is revered and beloved by monsters, even those who lack the intelligence to understand the day's significance and feared by mortals. It is common practice for cities to prepare for Chaotium weeks in advance by boarding windows, reviewing and bolstering infrastructure, and storing food. Strangely enough, despite the destructiveness of this Feast Day, it is often followed by a period of earnest renewal. What survives is often better and stronger for it and communities learn to lean upon one another as they rebuild.   Mushrava (Redleaves - Verteris, 14)   Mushrava is the Feast Day of reaping, belonging to the Endless, Carthus. It is this day or soon after that the crops planted in the spring will come to fruition and fill the storehouses. It is a day of long but satisfying and needed work. This is also a day of remembering the dead and honoring the elders in one's life. It is customary for children of a household to sit at the feet of the old and listen to their wisdom, and tales. This is also a day of passing and thus mourning. Carthus grants the gift of death to the suffering on his Feast Day, ushering them into the hollow world beyond the pale light of life. It is said that those who resist the call of Carthus on this day are doomed to rise as ghasts and ghouls, for their hunger of life could not be quenched.   Rivaina (Redleaves - Lageos, 14)   On the Feast Day of the Endless, Gozrah, the oceans swell and the rivers overrun their banks. Rain, wind and storm fills the sky and reminds all of mortalkind that civilization is a gift that can be swept away effortlessly if the Endless desire it. Communities will often gather in feast halls and wait out the wind and rains together, eating as one and celebrating all that has been built and achieved despite the perils of the world and erosion of time. In the desert lands of Nausica and Infidia this day is especially cherished for it brings a rainfall that makes life possible in those desperate regions. Fisherman and sailors are said to be given special providence if they brave the waters and the storm upon this Feast Day, but many who undergo the trial of Gozrah's wrath are never seen again.   Wyrmwood (Redleaves - Edorra, 14)   The dreaded Feast Day of the Endless, Sethex, is the celebration of monsters and the woe of mortalkind. It is also the day of dragonslaying for upon this Feast Day are all dragons, the penultimate children of the father of monsters, born into this world from clutches of jewel-encrusted eggs. Because dragons are the most powerful and terrifying of all monsters in the world of Orr and they are most vulnerable on this day of awakening, it is not uncommon for grand Wyrmhunts to be prepared in anticipation of their hatching so as to strike the beasts down before they assume their awesome power. Destroying a nest of dragon eggs or attacking a brooding dragon queen is almost assuredly a dangerous quest however and many lose their lives in such hunts. In the meantime the tides of other monsters swell, and fearsome creatures devote their strength and their legions to assaulting cities and settlements of mortals. This is a day of evil rites and monstrous sieges for the intelligent creatures of the world's darker forces.   Morphiseer (Frostfall - Somnium, 14)   The Feast Day of dreams and portents belongs to the Endless, Pondera. On the eve of her Feast Day one can foresee small glimpses into the winding and branching halls of the future that lies ahead in the arc of time. Sages and mystics will see their powers of prophecy and foretelling enhanced on this day, and thus many powerful individuals will seek out such individuals in preparation of it. Perhaps it is due to this seeking and anticipation that it is common for traveling performers and circus festivals to accompany Pondera's Feast Day, appearing in cities across the world and offering strange and delightful sensations, performances and grand gestures of artistry, illusion, and misdirection.   Eonever (Frostfall - Quiecus, 14)   It is said that the Endless, Tybrus, is the eldest of his kind and his Feast Day is thus a celebration of the gods themselves. On this day mortals are called to give thanks for the powers of the Endless and their governance of the cosmos. On this day the temples are filled with the throngs of the devoted and it is common for this to be the day a Paladin swears their oaths. The ceremonies of Eonever are vast and varied, adopting unique traditions in different corners of the world and even among different sects of similar beliefs. It is said that to spill blood on holy ground during Eonever is to invite the gravest of all curses.   Umbranite (Frostfall - Mordros, 14)   The day of secrets. Umbranite is the Feast Day of the Endless, Zalamund. Plots and schemes enacted on this day have a supernatural chance of succeeding. The moons and stars of Orr completely vanish during the twilight hours. Numerous assassinations have been conceived on this day, and other dark upheavals, and thus the rich and the mighty rightly fear it. This is the day of rebellions, the holiday of thieves, and the hour of great gambles.
Giant's Dance (Greenspring - Novus, 1)   Giant's Dance, or New Year's Day, is the first day in the celestial calendar, and the day of Orr's creation according to the Canticles of Light (Hymns sung by the Solars of Elysium). It's a time of promise and conviction where mortals often begin planning their achievements and aspirations for the coming year. A common custom on Giant's Dance is to experience something new, whether it be a new restaurant, taking an unfamiliar path along a wild trek, or making a new friend. Many establishments may use Giant's Dance as a chance to promote new products, new meals, or perform grand openings. Giant's Dance is also a day of celebration of the children and young persons in one's life.
