Major Caesron Fife Funeral

Life, Death

The snowy world of Vanheim came to a total standstill today as the people of Vanheim turned out in huge numbers to mourn the loss of Major Caesron Fife, the planet’s governor and a hero of the resistance against the Karkouri occupation.

Major Fife was laid to rest after lying in state for two days, both of which were national holidays. Lt-Governor Ajelund Gross led the procession of all of Vanheim’s political class to pay their respects. The funeral was also widely attended with President Herrick Knottman , General Aston Groff, Princess Kallisto Valane and Margrave Alexander Ashpool  all in attendance. More than five hundred thousand people came to the funeral, watching from various temporary viewing stands set up around Vanheim. Major Fife, born and raised on Vanheim , was a former Recon Marine who turned to the resistance during the Karkouri occupation and he led one of the planet’s main resistance movements during the long and bloody Karkouri occupation. He was hailed as a key figure in bringing down the Karkouri and he was a part of the Svarthelm council that followed liberation.   He was then elected Governor three times, with his Dagr Party all powerful in Vanheim politics, later evolving into the Frelsi Vanheim party. Major Fife was legendary for his tough resistance to Federal overreach, his patriotism and his strange mixture of political beliefs. Some opponents called him an “arch conservative” whilst others called him a liberal or even a socialist.   Major Fife died after a long illness, which was largely hidden from the public. His funeral was attended by his son Gunnir Fife, a retired Marine officer and his grandchildren. Despite amassing a huge amount of money during his time, largely through donations and gifts, Major Fife died in relative poverty, leaving only one million adjusted dollars to his family in his will. While not often publicised or promoted at the time, insider sources confirmed Fife had donated billions of adjusted dollars to charitable causes and spent a fortune setting up charitable NGOs and the Vanheim works corporation Saman, a company focused on finding employment for veterans and indigents.   With Fife gone, Vanheim enters into a new era. There is some speculation that without his powerful and charismatic leadership, Frelsi Vanheim may lose support, with the SDP and Vishnu Elpis nipping at their heels. Parvinder Morrow, the chair of FV since 2558, saw much support from Fife and is certain to run for Governor on the FV ticket in 2568, but will face a tough challenge from many parties for the governor’s seat.   But many are speculating that - whomever comes next - they will struggle to fill the void left by the old Major who rose to the post of Governor of Vanheim and brought its people out of a war, into the Republic, and kept them together.   A great banner was hung from the window of Aesir City College on the day of the funeral with simple blue writing on a white background. The people of Vanheim have taken the words to heart, even though they were written in an archaic language

“Du holdt hjertene våre varme”
