Black-Star Organization in Orpheus Gaze | World Anvil

Black-Star

Black-Star were a major Terran terrorist organization formed in the late 24th century with anarchist views

Origins

Black-Star began as a splinter group from OMDA .  Black-Stars leaders were of a more anarchist bent, believing that in the end, no form of major government was right for Terrans and that they were best governed, at most, at purely local level.   When OMDA was wiped out during the Corporate War in 2336, Black-Star assumed its mantle as the principal opposition to the The Federated States and then The Terran Empire

Stated Aims

Black-Star published several manifestos, most of which stated their aims as:
  • The disbandment of the Federal level government
  • The disbandment or downsizing of all planetary level government
  • The break up of the major corporations
  • Redistribution of wealth

Organization

Black-Star was organized in the classic "Cell" structure and each planetary or regional leader was only aware of the units, cells and assets of their own area, never the wider area.  This meant that Black-Star was famously hard to find and infiltrate but also meant that it had some organizational issues as well as the occasional regional imbalances.

History

Black-Star was founded in the early 24th century as its members and leaders splintered away from OMDA, rejecting the "Marxist" ideology of OMDA.  Black-Star was generally a very well organization and in many cases it was mistaken for being part of OMDA   After the corporate wars, Black-Star began to recruit more and more militia and stockpile weapons, launching bombing attacks largely against the Hansa and corporations, bombing the HQs of VENTRISS UDC, Allied Technology and West-Corp.   From 2380 to 2383 Black-Star launched a huge wave of bombing attacks and ambushes, largely against military targets in an attempt to resist the rise of the Junta.     In 2384, Black-Star bombed two Marine barracks, killing more than a hundred Marines.  The Junta suspected that senior political leaders displaced by the Coup in 2380 were supplying Black-Star with weapons and intelligence.   In the 2390s, Black-Star waged a low level war of resistance on many worlds against the Terran Empire, killing hundreds of Marines, police and PMCs   Black-Star rejected attempts by the Committee to Restore Democracy to work together against the Empire, regarding them as "pawns of the old ways and the Hansa".   Black-Star tried to claim that the death of Prince Michael Solarin, the "Imperial Heir" was carried out by them but this was later disproved by Imperial Intelligence.   Black-Star were blamed for the bombing of the Imperial Palace on Dhaka that crippled Emperor Isaac Solarin and Chamberlain Kreak Tancredo.

Downfall

Due to being linked with the bombing in Dhaka, Black-Star drew the attention of the Imperial Marine Corps.  Operation Thundercloud saw thousands of Marines deployed to attack suspected Black-Star bases and thousands of militia were killed or captured.   This was followed up by "Operation Hangman", a major IIS led operation that broke the back of Black-Stars network and essentially destroyed them as an effective terrorist network.
