Objects can be permanently enchanted using particular sorts of spells. The Mana cost of this is steep, so much so that the process typically takes days, weeks or even months to complete, depending on the strength of the enchantment. Magic items of all types can be used multiple times and are often heirloom items. Adventurers' Guilds stock dungeons with magic items as a means of providing reward to members, and also so the adventurers can prove completion on their return. Guilds keep ledgers of magic items and their current locations/owners in order to track this and deter thieves. There are three main types of enchantment that can be placed on a magic item. 'Plusses' are enhancements that make an item better for its purpose; a more damaging weapon, a more protective armour or a sharper tool. 'Adjustments' change the basic properties of an item; making it lighter, a different colour or giving it resistance to corrosion. These two types can be stacked on the same item. The third type is an enchantment with a specific, unusual purpose, often placed by itself on a small, easy to carry object. Those objects are then called 'curios'. Magic items have a coloured aura that extends a short distance away from them. The colour of the aura indicates which Circle of magic the enchantment falls under.
