Session 64: When Last We Met 1/7/24
General Summary
When last we met, The party were deep inside The Dormition palace, Home of their current foes, The Mastokovs. They look around and find Lord Zinoviy easily lounging with one of the Mastokovs. They confront him and he seems... Quite surprised to see them. They exchange false pleasantries and he pays them for their efforts. With a little extra thrown on top for the "Losses" they suffered. They then take their leave and Tensi wildshapes into a small fly and returns to the room to hear what they are discussing.
She overhears their conversation where Zinoviy tells a nearby enforcer that this was a complication and they were all supposed to be killed by the explosion. But the plan will still go on. He says he will consult with Gregoriy Mastokov, The patriarch on whether they should let these "Witnesses" aka the party live with the information they have. Meanwhile Celeste and co explore the ground floor of the Dormition Palace where they find Kulikov and Kadin in a nearby office. She successfully lockpicks the main chamber door leading to The Mastokovs themselves. Meanwhile Zinoviy passes right by them (thanks to the pass without trace spell) to enter the chamber and discuss the current complication with The Mastokov family. They once again overhear Zinoviy speak and basically confirm the entire thing was a setup and meant to Turn The Tsao-Kun Tribes against their rivals. Little do they know, The horse tribes of the north are on their way to raze their city of Darkolz to ashes. They decide to let the party live with their ignorance. The party flee the palace and decide their next move in the Roaming baron Inn. They try to calm an enraged Kraal who is out for blood and decide they should intercept the Tsao Kun Tribes and give them a more pointed target, rather than letting them wash over the city and murder countless civilians. Vandread and Arcturus ride out to meet them on the route to Yakutia. Meanwhile The rest of the parties try to explore the city and gather up intelligence on the political leanings and any sort of unrest within the city. They learn that the aristocrats of the cities are pretty indifferent. They would feel slighted but as long as their money keeps flowing and their lifestyles maintained, they couldn't care less who rules the city. Many think Perhaps the change in leadership might boost the economy. New ideas and all that.
The underclasses of the city sing a different tune and are downtrodden in their hopelessness. The only ones who actually help or benefit them are a group known as The Order of the Perpetual Shroud. Mistral pays them a visit at their headquarters and after several attempts and getting ejected from the building, The steward hears him out and accepts his advice to keep the lower castes of the city away from The Dormition Palace so they will not be caught in any crossfire.
The party await the hopeful return of Vandread and Arcturus in the hopes they've gotten through to Ongar Kol Ongar. And that's where we pickup next time!
