Session 114: When Last We Met 2/9/25
General Summary
When last we met, The party had just defeated a group of Star Spawn who had been manipulating Lady Mastokov into obedient control for The King in Yellow. She alerts Mistral and company that the rest of her family is being held hostage somewhere else in the palace. They move from room to room to investigate.
Heading to a parlor, they find three of the "regular" palace guards tied up and gagged, Mistral moves to rescue them but is set upon by three of the disguised Perpetual Shroud guards. They attack and are subsequently put down by the party. They then untie the guards who tell them that the Mastokovs and the children are in the room right above them and that The nearby staircase will lead them right to them. Vandread takes point with the guards and heads up to find a dozen armed Perpetual Shroud guards holding the family hostage. Vandread and the guards are spotted but the rest of the party is down the stairs and manages to sneak off to try and get the jump on them from another egress point.
While Vandread holds the attention of the Shroud Guards, The rest of the party sneak off and move along the ground floor. Using ghostly gaze, Mistral spies another tied up guard in an office. He frees the guy and asks where the opposite staircase behind the Library is. The guard tells him its in the dining room and has the party follow him. At the stairs, Mistral casts foresight on Celeste who then casts pass without a trace on herself and the rest of the party.
They slink up the stairs and avoid detection by any of the Shroud guards and get into position. Celeste casts Silence on half the room and then, armed with Necklaces of Carceri they try to neutralize the guards who currently have the children held at knifepoint.
Mistral and Romaia manage to clasp the necks of two of them but Celeste has her quarry fight back and is unsuccessful. From there a silent library battle ensues as no one has access to spells with verbal components so everyone proceeds to physically attack with melee weapons.
Celeste manages to put one guard down using her Primal Savagery attack and moves to attack another guard in the same fashion. One of the guards catches back up with Veronika and grapples her, then proceeding to stab her in the stomach two times. Vandread sends his steel defender to tackle that particular guard and end his onslaught. We ended off with Romaia in a sword fight with a brute enforcer, Celeste clawing the face off another cult guard, Mistral in a knife fight with one of them, And Vandread on his end casting Web on the remaining cultists as well as a Ray of frost.
