Regelsburg
Capital city of the Duchy of Regelsburg, located on the Greatflood River between the Kingdom and the free cities of the north.
Demographics
Mostly human, though a smattering of halflings, elves and half-elves and so on. Dwarves live here as well, thought here is hostility between them and Regelsburg itself. Other species are viewed with great suspicion.
The human population is largely "German", though Common is spoken at least as much, especially among the merchant classes.
Government
City government consists of a mayor and council, answerable to the Duke.
Defences
Extensive city walls and other defenses.
Industry & Trade
Being on the river, it is a major trade center. However, decades of strife have eroded its place in the economic world.
Infrastructure
A modern city with walls and streets and sewers and decent water; much of this has been ruined by war, or fallen into disrepair.
History
Founded in the far past, a center of the growing civilization on the river. Over the centuries many kings and lords have laid claim to it, and many states have risen around it. It was known as Vassalton for many years, but by the 700s or so, Karl the Great had established Regelsburg as an independent kingdom. For the next few centuries, it passed in and out of the control of the Kingdom, before finally establishing its de facto independence as the Duchy of Regelsburg (though this was still, nominally, subservient to the king in Norwich.)
In 1593, George Blighton had Frederick III, Duke of Regelsburg, murdered, and took the throne for himself. This led to a decade of war, which devastated the country, and left the city in a state of near anarchy. It has been slow to rebuild.
