Prey-belly

Prey-belly is a strange but proper term for the common status of a ryclin that has eaten a satiating amount of meat - more often attributed to live prey, but broadly applicable to even cryo-food. This state and condition is completely healthy and normal, even if its appearance may startle other races that aren't use to a ryclin's habits. As ryclins commonly feed predatorily on whole animals, their bodies adjust into this state upon successfully obtaining larger prey, and stretch their abdomens to hold vast amounts. In this state they may appear slower, more bloated, and give off the illusion of being fat or pregnant.   Their guts may "kick", churn, or convulse if the meal was recent and still living with a stubborn or feral desire to struggle their way out, but the ryclin is rarely bothered unless they're over-stuffed or ate something more dangerous. If the ryclin does have poor health through late-stage selmzi infection, or excess fat, their prey-belly tends to take on a more pronounced gelatinous property when agitated with added prey, and they tend to lack the same feeding capacity as a healthy ryclin. Eating before a meal's prey-belly has gone away is unadvised since its excess eating. A ryclin often just needs two sizable meals at most in a 24-hour period set apart from each other, and a single great meal can also suffice.   Regardless of the food type, a prey-belly tends to turn warmer based on volume, with heavier loads making the ryclin output a lot of body-heat and even hyperventilate a little. The body will go through an acid-intensive process that tries to adjust to the portion, and rapidly tear down and convert the material into more short-term energy and acid. Yet even though the ryclin will quickly use the energy earned, heavy doses will still trigger drowsiness, and its recommended heavy meals come with rest somewhere in an hour or two after consumption so the enzymes can work at their best.   Once their meal is even partially ingested, the prey may start contributing to acidic projectile reserves the ryclin can use for defense or additional hunts. Ryclin with acidic disabilities however may find this problematic, and begin excreting old or new acid after recent consumption. A ryclin might also involuntarily spew back less beneficial parts of their meal, such as clothing, trash, bones, or loose fibers of feathers or shedding clumps of fur, and is more likely to expel contents when moving, hopping, and not resting. It is very rare however that living prey escapes, and may even occasionally prove challenging even if the ryclin decides to try and regurgitate (with the practice being possible, but unreliable).
