Kingdom of Karvin

"For our blood is mighty, the fiery soul of the first king lives within us all." - Karvinian War Chant   The Kingdom of Karvin is a nation state located in the Southern region of the Western Continent. The Kingdom of Karvin is one of the oldest geopolitical institutions still existing on the continent as of 618 c.e. Despite its contemporary instability and decline in power, the Kingdom of Karvin still remains a significant economic and geopolitical force in Orbis Mundus, holding a territorial sovereignty over the strait of Orbis.

Structure

The Kingdom of Karvin is an feudal absolute primogeniture monarchy comprising of 6 independent Duchies further subdivided into Counties, Baronies and Earldoms. Landed gentry are granted seating in the Royal Court of the Imperial Palace wherein which the majority of legislature is dictated. A handful of large settlements throughout Karvin also send public representatives to the Plebeian Council, though its power and influence over legislation is limited, and functions largely as a pressure group.

History

Karvin was founded in 249 a.d. by Count Karvin of Karsmouth. Karvin I was able to establish a kingdom in the peninsula which, through several successive rulers, encompassed upwards of 33% of the total land area of the Western continent at its peak. In recent years, most notably under the ruler ship of Grimm II, Karvin saw political instability which saw the territory of the nation recede, culminating in the establishment of the northern exclaves and the Holstead Independence Crisis.

Demography and Population

the Kingdom of Karvin primarily comprises of mostly human settlements scattered across the mainland. Larger cities, such as Westtalon and Karsmouth as well as the regions of the northern exclave hold very prominent racial minorities, including Elves, Dwarfs, Tieflings and others. 70% of the Royal Court comprises of humans, with an additional 15% being or related to Elves.

Territories

Karvin is primarily divided into the mainland, which is a mostly temperate region of moors and grasslands, and the wooded, mountainous region of the Northern exclave, a region of lesser infrastructure which is granted greater autonomy by the Karvinian Government. The mainland is connected by several trade roads which connect the major cities of the region logistically and economically.

Military

Defense of the realm from both internal and external threats is primarily supplied independently by landed nobility. However the presence of the imperial army can be found in increased quantity with proximity to the capital. The Kingdom of Karvin grants its gentry a conscripted army from the ages of 15-20 in Humans and 20-34 in Elves and other species. The Karvinian military therefore comprises of approximately 300,000 military personnel, with 150,000 answering directly to the King.

Religion

The Kingdom of Karvin, though an officially secular state, is home to many religions and beliefs mostly tied to human culture. The majority of citizens in Karvin are members of the church of Fertilla, though the worship of Avarantis, the Tarrasque, and others is also common throughout all parts of the realm.

Foreign Relations

Karvin has recently seen increased hostilities with the great powers of the eastern continent, which culminated in the Great Hemispheric War wherein which the Hui-San Empire and the Monsol Khanate fought against the Kingdom. As a consequence, Karvin has been eager to consolidate its relationships with its Western Continental Neighbours,a greeing to split the city of Westtalon with the Steppe Kingdom and signing a military alliance with the Holstead Republic. Hostilities continue in the region of Varis though no official conflict has occurred in decades.
