Casing of the Colors Tradition / Ritual in Opposition: Mars | World Anvil

Casing of the Colors

The Casing of the Colors ceremony is a Transnational Aerospace Security Alliance (TASA) and United North American States military tradition for deploying troops. The departing unit will hold a final formation before embarking on their deployment journey. During this ceremony, the unit's colors (flag) will be furled and placed into a cloth sleeve for travel. This will also be done for any subordinate units down to Battalion level. Words are usually spoken by the senior commander present, describing the unit's history and the journey ahead.   The unit colors will remain cased until the unit arrives at its final destination for deployment. At this location the unit will hold an uncasing ceremony, usually in conjunction with a Casing of the Colors for the unit they are intended to replace (if applicable). The returning unit commander will speak of the unit's accomplishments during the deployment before furling the colors for the return trip to their home station, where the colors will be uncased again.
