Feast of Janus

The Feast of Janus (1 July) celebrates the god Janus. It is widely observed as a minor holiday throughout Belcantas, though observance tends to be more formalized among Human cultures.   As the exact midpoint of the calendar year, the Feast of Janus serves as a day of reflecting on the nature of the changes and transitions in one's life, looking both backwards on the previous six months and forward to the remaining half of the year. Because of Janus's association with queer identities, it is also an exceptionally common day for same-sex engagements and weddings.

Execution

The Feast of Janus is typically a quiet holiday, spent giving offerings to Janus or the god of one's choosing. Many people write lists of what they had hoped the past six months would have given them, and what they hope the next six months will bring. Some store these away to be read before New Year's Dawn; others present them at temples as offerings.   In Cantonova tradition, superstition holds that a couple that meets at the Feast of Janus looks forward to a strong future together. Matchmaking sessions and events for singles are widely held throughout the city on this day.
