Archvale

Archvale is a mountain resort town on the island of Luömisáde in the northern Aquatic Kingdoms. It is known primarily as a luxury resort town; its hot springs and ski slopes draw thousands of visitors per year from across the Aquatic Kingdoms, Erdelan, Scalados, and elsewhere.

History

The area around present-day Archvale was occupied by nomadic tribes of goatherds (mostly Human and/or dwarf) since the later centuries of the Age of Anxiety (ANX). In the early Age of Integrity, pilgrims and mystics set up semi-permanent and later permanent residences on the shores of the Valkyrian Baths due to the spread of the Legend of the Valkyrian Baths, and the hot springs' purported healing powers.
The small settlement prospered during the Age of Integrity, but was relatively unknown outside its immediate area until the Y210 CPX marriage of king Charmant I of Longobardi and Princess Cendrillon . The princess was frequently homesick for Archvale, and so the royal couple built a winter villa there for the court to visit. It soon boomed as a recreational and diplomatic destination for royals from as far north as Bjália and as far south as Cantonova.

Tourism

Alpine skiing was invented on the many picturesque slopes around Archvale. Other winter sports, like sledding and ice skating, are also incredibly popular. It is also a popular destination in the summer for the regattas and cycling races it hosts.
Archvale is also a popular destination for its luxury shopping, fine hotels and spas, and theatrical performances. The Archvale Amphitheater is the largest outdoor theater in the Aquatic Kingdoms.
As it has been since ancient times, the Valkyrian Chalet remains a coveted convalescence residence for retired warriors and those suffering from chronic or difficult-to-treat ailments.
