Unicorn

Redd Bronnytook, better known by his alias Unicorn, was a human mercenary and a leading member of the Menagerie. He was a player character in The Menagerie, portrayed by Kate Enge.
"The handsome devil. Sure, he may've aged a decade or so – gone silver around the temples – but by the stones, if he weren't still that smirking, sun-browned sonuva that charmed the Commander all them years ago. Don't let the country bumpkin routine fool ya, though. Beneath that bashful exterior, beneath that cluster of halfling holy symbols around his neck, there was still a hard-fightin', hard-drinkin' mercenary bastard. He might preach about the Common Canon or refuse a hand of goose but trust me on this; takes one to know one."
– Beholder's Log

History

Born in 30 2A and raised by halflings in rural Rubicos, Redd's natural size allowed him to better protect the small community of Frogbottom. When the Menagerie briefly occupied by the village in 56 2A during its campaign against Brigandia, Redd and his childhood friend Walsh Humbleplum joined the company on a lark, excited to see the world. It was during this campaign that Redd earned the nickname "Unicorn", particularly among the winsome young women of the company.   When the contract concluded, however, Unicorn retired from the Menagerie and remained in Rubicos. He dropped off the map for a dozen years – to allegedly get married, settle down and raise a family. He reappeared in 68 2A in the city of Ansk, looking for work and shy on stories about his domestic life.

Character

Personality

Charismatic and fun-loving, Unicorn was always a popular member of the company. Perpetually wearing a charming smile, his rural upbringing made him supportive, friendly and unafraid to indulge in the comforts of life. In addition to a reputation as a gambler and partier, Unicorn earned his name from several women of the company, telling tales of his exploits in bed.   During his second tour, however, he showed markedly more restraint. He stopped smoking, he stopped drinking and gambled only lightly. His newfound religion – the Common Canon – not only granted him divine power but also a new perspective on life; at least by all appearances.

Relationships

During his initial tour with the company, Unicorn made many friends among the mercenaries. According to rumor, he sparked romantic relations with both Willow and even Chimera and, even upon his return, he remained flirty with both. Only Cyclops – his true name Walsh Humbleplum – knew Unicorn before he joined the Menagerie but now, years later, the plump halfling villager was almost unrecognizable to his old friend.

Abilities

While initially a skilled fighter, it was Unicorn's tenure away from the company that taught him his most valuable skills. As a paladin of the Common Canon, Unicorn could call on the manifold saints of the halfling pantheon to heal his allies, smite his friends and perform any number of minor miracles.   He was also a skilled horticulturist, brewing his own kombucha and swearing by its medicinal properties.
