Ondûn

Ondûn was the known world. It was composed of seven continents – Auros, Diamos, Emeros, Obsidios, Rubicos, Sapphros and Thanatos – and three oceans – Draconic, Gigantic and Tritonic. Ondûn was believed to be a round planet orbiting a single sun and that was, in turn, orbited by a single moon. Other stars were visible from the surface of Ondûn but could not be reached, save by extraplanar travel.   Though it remained a secret to its inhabitants for much of its long history, Ondûn was created by the Sixfold Faith as a prison to contain Yog, the malevolent precursor entity that predated all creation on the plane.

History

Main Article: History of Ondûn   Ondûn's exact age was impossible to determine. The early civilizations that might once have recorded it – whether dragons and giants – long ago lost interest in a history that did not flatter them. Even the mortal peoples of the world – elves, dwarves, orcs and others – could reconcile their own creation myths and thus disagree on the world's precise age. Most scholars refer to this period, before the formation of the Sister Empires, as simply the Vanished Time.   The name "ondûn" originated in Dwarven, meaning "all-cage" and referring to Yog's imprisonment.

Geography

Auros

Main Article: Auros   Surrounded by the Draconic Ocean, the continent of Auros is heart-shaped central continent of Ondûn. Covered in primordial wilderness for much of its history, war and calamity were doomed to slowly devastate Auros' pristine landscape over the centuries. Home to orcs, worgs and animals of impossible size, Auros was the staging ground for some of the most dramatic and consequential events in Ondûn's history – from the Night Wars to the formation of Yogoth.

Diamos

Main Article: Diamos   Connected to Rubicos by a thin land bridge, Diamos was the northernmost continent of Ondûn. Long and thin, composed primarily of glacial islands and icebergs, Diamos is largely uninhabited, practically devoid of permanent settlements. Only frost giants, white dragons and gigantic arctic predators call them Diamos home. The most remote of Ondûn's continents, the frozen wastes of Diamos only rarely factored into the world's history, the drama of its wars, conquests and disasters.

Emeros

Main Article: Emeros   Separated from Sapphros by a thin channel, Emeros was the northwestern continent of Ondûn. The Wombwood – an expansive forest that once covered nearly all the landmass – was its primary geographical feature for most of the world's history, though the expanding cities of Thorp would eventually come to rival that in years to come. Emeros was the birthplace of the elven people and once the custodianship of green dragons.

Obsidios

Main Article: Auros   Arguably the largest continent on Ondûn, Obsidios is located in the world's southeastern corner. Much of the landmass is carpeted in thick jungle but it is also crisscrossed with rivers and boasts some of the tallest mountains outside Rubicos. While humans are not originally native to Obsidios, many of Ondûn's great human civilizations arose here in the scattered Hundred Cities, to say nothing of the secretive yuan-ti nor the malicious black dragons that stalk its swamps.

Rubicos

Main Article: Rubicos   Known for its jagged mountains, cold climate and active volcanos, Rubicos was Ondûn's northeastern continent and possibly its largest. Connected to Diamos by a thin land bridge, Rubicos went likewise unsettled for much of its ancient history, save for the native dwarves who dwelled beneath its surface. Also the home of goblins and red dragons, Rubicos became a provincial territory for humans fleeing the Night Wars and orcs seeking new lands to prosper upon.

Sapphros

Main Article: Sapphros   Separated from Emeros by a thin channel, Sapphros was the southwestern continent of Ondûn. Known for its arid climate, its expansive grasslands and the great dry seabed known as the Labyrinth Sand, Sapphros was the home of a variety of animalistic peoples, known colloquially as the wildborn. Like Obsidios to the east, Sapphros was a major colony for humanity as they fled Thanatos but here, they fell beneath the sway of blue draconic overlords.

Thanatos

Main Article: Thanatos   The southernmost continent of Ondûn, Thanatos is a land steeped in horror and mystery. The original homeland of humanity, Thanatos was once an underworld on earth, where all humanity's dead came to reside following their deaths. This gave rise to an thanocracy, where the dead ruled over the living, and led to a number of conflicts over Ondûn's history. Shrouded both in legend and in a magical mist called the @Whither, Thanatos was immensely isolated, governing its own in secrecy for thousands of years.
