Brother Sorav

Brother Sorav, Triarch of the Second Heptum was a male dwarven cleric, a member of the Mystriarchy and advisor to Thane Zazem Bracebow.

Appearance

In 68 2A, Brother Sorav was still a young dwarf with no hint of gray in his hair. He styled his beard as a tasseled mustache, held in place with a silver clasp and designed to flare outward. He dressed in the traditional Mystriarchy style – cumbersome robes, long sleeves and a hunk of alabaster stone on a chain around his neck. He wore small spectacles on the bridge of his nose.

History

Second Age

Brother Sorav's history before coming to Snowperch was deliberately obscured by his masters at the Mystriarchy. Like all initiates in the sacred mysteries, he was trained at the Sanctum in Stone before receiving his first assignment. A black bloat scare at Snowperch in 48 2A caused Zazem Bracebow to call for Mystriarchy assistance and the young Brother Sorav was sent. He arrived bearing a gift – five casks of quality stout, brewed during the reign of Kavmari Falsesilver. Little did his new hosts know, however, that one of these casks was poisoned with cockatrice venom.   Once he'd neutralized the black bloat threat, Brother Sorav spent the next twenty years ingratiating himself to the clan's thane and the peer congress. He preached a strict isolationist policy, perfectly in line with the thane's own Cloudpeak worldview.

Personality

Brother Sorav was outwardly soft-spoken and polite, never one to speak out of turn. He took pains to appear calm and unflappable at all times, always sympathetic to the needs and worldview of whomever he spoke with. Nonetheless, this outer demeanor held a cunning interior, capable of manipulating those around him toward performing his own ends. Only when those efforts were thwarted would he allow true frustration to creep into his visage.   When driven to desperation, Brother Sorav could take drastic action.

Campaigns

The Menagerie

  • Khûm: The Commander's Tent first encountered Brother Sorav in the Thane's Hall of Snowperch. Deposited there by giant eagles, they managed to convince the thane to stay their execution for three days but immediately recognized the Mystriarchy cleric as an obstacle to their plan. While reclining in the camphor tree, Mouse and Brother Sorav exchanged barbs, inspiring the kobold rogue to arrange for Brother Sorav's disappearance during the Peer Council vote (Chapter 11). He was quite enraged at this and disappeared shortly thereafter, avoiding even Umber's attempts to harass him (Chapter 12). When the war council was poisoned, he appeared and offered to cast a spell to detect poison but the shaken mercenaries did not believe him. Griffon compelled a confession from the priest, who claimed that the Mystriarchy ordered him to poison her. The disgusted mercenary pitched him from Snowperch's courtyard but, as he fell, Brother Sorav dragged Griffon with him. While Mouse's rope was quick enough to save Griffon, Brother Sorav was not so lucky, falling fifty feet to the mountain below (Chapter 14). When passing through the Iron Word camp, Mouse discovered Brother Sorav – wounded but still alive – and cared for by Goatherd (Chapter 15).
