The Merriweather Family

The Merriweather family is the second wealthiest family in Coridai. Their family ties run deep in Coridian history tracing back to the beginning of the country. Though their family is powerful it is hardly huge in any sense. The Merriweather family has never been known to have a family larger than four household members, and a Merriweather living past the age of 50 is unheard of. The current Merriweather family formerly consisted of four members, but now only two. With the disappearance of both Peter and Lillian Merriweather, the two children of the household, the family is left only with Allison and Malcolm. However, do not be fooled by the small size of their blood family, for the Merriweathers have more influence than it may appear, and those who end up on their bad side oft wound up dead, or worse, working for them.

Public Agenda

The Merriweather's provide the same sort of public image as the British royal family. They are an example of what you could be in Coridai if you just work hard enough. Telling

Assets

Where the Merriweathers originally found their wealth is a mystery to all though you can find their name slapped on documents everywhere. Chances are if you visit a store in Coridai the Merriweathers have a share in it.

History

The Merriweather legacy traces back centuries. But the family's rise to power can be traced back to the beginning of Coridai's founding. During the founding, the regent rulers gathered to decide what kind of government they wanted to be. After, hours of debate they ultimately decided to create a council of Jarls that would each govern their own territories. The economy would be a simple trade based system where people would exchange goods for currency based on how much time was spent creating an item or completing a service. This is when Malceroy of family Arxene stepped in. He proposed to one of the Coridian founders an alternative system, one where a lower class's labor benefits a higher class primarily and the lower class secondarily. This concept was met with much criticism but after some initial reluctance, the founder eventually agreed. So the system was put in place and for a while thrived. It wasn't until the 8th generation of the Arxene's that trouble arose. A split between two siblings created a lasting rift in the family. One was hungry for power, the other for justice. The two siblings separated. After one had tarnished the family name through acts of rebellion, the other had "rebranded" under the title of Merriweather. While the other sibling, the tarnisher, kept the family name, seeking to redefine what it stood for. It is rumored that this divide is why the Merriweather's keep such tight family units now. Since then the name of Merriweather has become well known in not only Coridai but all over the factions of the Maelstrom.
