Hallam's Capsule Shot

Created by Hallam during his time at The Maelstrom College of Magic, the Hallam Capsule shot incorporates the homing aspect of certain projectile spells with the combustion thrust of an artillery cannon on a much larger scale in both cases. The Capsule works by hollowing out a large metal ball that has been decorated with nice, friendly, ornate, unintimidating patterns to give some class to the activity of essentially loading oneself into a giant gun. A passenger is then loaded into the ball. Inside the ball is a semi gyroscopic interior that "does it's best" to keep itself centered as the ball goes hurtling through the air. Speaking of which, the next part of the process involves the ball being welded closed (doors were attempted) and being loaded into the large cannon. Unlike a cannon, however, there is no fuse instead there's a room full of nitroglycerin with a nearby fire rune waiting to be set off. The spell can only activate if something organic steps on the rune unfortunately which is why this device doesn't get much use outside of going to and from the College. when asked for a comment on this feature Hallam's only response was "I wish less of my early work revolved around killing rats." Once the spell is set off the capsule is sent into the sky with a boom, this is generally when the motion sickness sets in. Once the capsule is airborn the next step is to pray the craft locks onto your intended target. The capsule shot is the first of Hallam's inventions to use "spell splicing": the practice of taking an element of a spell and combining it with another. For this invention, the two spells are "Find Familiar" and "Catapult". Now ideally your destination will have a Hallam Capsule Shot Magno-Dock. If it doesn't, however, your next worry should only be of boiling alive in a volcano if your destination is anywhere near anything molten as on some models the Capsules have a backup heat-seeking function. The reason for this is still widely unknown.
