The Agre Basin

The Agre Basin is the land that rests to the north of the Vas Mountains, home of the long and winding Agre River and the central heart of Veliky Farwind. This place is home to several species of animals, a variety of flora, and many different peoples who call it home.

Geography

The Agre Basin is the land surrounding the immense Agre River. The land is pockmarked with countless little lakes and ponds which collect water from rain and snow, and the river serves as one of Farwind's main sources of transportation through the heartland of the kingdom, leading from Agregrad to Asdrasza and beyond all the way to the barrier islands and the Uverxis Ocean. The basin is home to sprawling forests of pine and spruce as well as hilly plains. The entire region is dotted with small lakes, ponds, and tarns. Some cliffs can be found along the basin as the glacier that formed it dug into the soil and permafrost. The cascading hills and deep forests of the region provide a scenic beauty in the midst of the harsh and cold land. The mountains of The Vas Mountain Range provide a stunning backdrop against it all as you can see the beginning and venture forth to where it ends in the frostbitten tundra.

Fauna & Flora

Much of the flora of the Agre Basin is hardy and built for colder enviroments. The boreal forests of the basin are home to various spruce and pine trees. One of the most populous is the Southern Farwinder Spruce, a tall spruce tree with dark wood and a thick dark green needles. Thick forests of pine and spruce can be found in the basin and are home to a variety of other flora such as winter flowers and shrubbery. The ancestor of the Fann Cabbage can also be found here and is a smaller variant, but it is still quite tasty.

Natural Resources

Many of the resources from the Agre Basin are from hunting, mining, and agriculture. The hunters of the region produce a multitude of furs from the wildlife. Warm bear furs, sleek sable pelts, and thick elk hides can be found in the Agre Basin. Fann Cabbage is one of the largest agricultural products with cucumbers and beets. These plants grow well in the climate of the basin and produce much of the Farwinder diet. Many of the mineral resources include iron, coal, copper, and silver from the heart of the mountain and the carved out cliffsides.

History

The Agre River Basin was formed when a massive glacier originating in the The Vas Mountain Range broke loose from the stone. It journeyed northward and carved its way through the landscape leaving debris and pockmarks in the ground as it travelled to the Uverxis Ocean. The giants made their home out the the basin first. Tribes of giants moved into the region and settled before human records could even fathom. They built kingdoms and gathered their resources from the basin in the forms of gems and precious metals from the mountains. They builts great halls in the confines of the mountains, resting deep beneath the surface or high above the clouds. Some of their castles even travelled along the wind amidst dark and stormy clouds to various destinations. However, the giants swiftly fell when their neighbors sought their riches. Swarms of Dragons descended upon their keeps, the giants fought amongst themselves, and terrifying creatures from the depths of the oceans and beneath the ground stormed their coastal cities and underground caverns. All of these beings destroyed their societies due to this fighting, and the giants were scattered to the wind with their enemies. Eventually, the mortal races of today made their way to the basin around 30,000 AP.   The Dwarves were among the first and quickly took hold of some of the Giant ruins. While they could not rebuild them yet, they made their villages and early settlements in the shelter of the great and tremendous halls with ample space. The Clans of the Viah, the Stova, and the Kaznatsa all made their homes in the surrounding area of the basin beneath the mountains or amidst the hills. Humans would arrive later at around 25,000 AP. They hunted and gathered in the surrounding basin and claimed that land as their own. They carved out their homes from the pockmarked valley. The first permanent human and elvish settlement in the region would be Tova, founded around 2,000 AP around the southern regions of the Basin by the Tsilni. The Tsilni grew a plant that would later become Fann Cabbage. The settlements of humans and elves began to pop up and the Dwares slowly began rebuilding the ruined keeps of the giants. The first city they built was the marvel of Agregrad, a city at the base of the Agre River.   While very few of the different groups who lived there liked each other, there was relative peace. Smaller wars were fought but nothing catastrophic came of them. Until the Dwarves sacked the cities of Tova and the Sagar city of Vadnirava in 53 AS. No one knows entirely why the Dwarves began this conflict, but they would not survive as the Sagar drove them out of the basin and out to the western reaches of the Sea of Frost. The Viah clan was completely destroyed, Agregrad was conquered, and the remaining two Clans fled the continent leaving for distant shores.   Now that the Dwarves had left the region, the remaining humans and elves only had to fight amongst themselves. They grew into Princedoms and controlled vast swathes of land in the Agre Basin. Eventually one Princedom overtook the others and managed to form Veliky Farwind, this princedom was the Principality of Asdrasza and had managed to unite the principalites after an era of turmoil in 3694 AS.
