The Vas Mountain Range

To the southern reaches of Veliky Farwind rests the cradle of the Agre Basin. A towering and expansive mountain range with soaring peaks and vast cliffs. All over the mountains you can find a multitude of both Dwarven and Giant ruins as well as terrifying creatures that are strong enough to thrive in this harsh and unforgiving environment. Beneath the mountains are twisting tunnels and expansive cave networks that connect to the Underdark. The Farwinders who lay claim to the mountains have built their homes in the shade of these mountains and mine it for its resources and treasures. The largest city that sits in the cradle of this mountain is Agregrad, a city built upon Dwarven foundations and ruled by Farwinder governance.

Geography

The geography consists of rocky cliff faces, towering peaks, and thin mountain passes. The landscape of The Vas is incredibly rocky and treacherous to traverse if you are inexperienced. In the middle of the range sits the highest peak of the range belongs to Mt. Vadnya. To the knowledge of the people of Farwind, no one has made it to the peak and is uncharted territory. The Girodny Ravine is a thin winding cavern dug into the earth of the mountain range uncovered by a great quake.

Ecosystem

During the late spring and summer months the mountain range is the slightest bit warmer providing an increase of water to the rivers it feeds from snowmelt. During winter it is home to some of the harshest conditions on the continent with raging blizzards, treacherous ravines, and thick ice. With the mix of the northern winter and the rocky crags of the mountain, the upper regions are terribly dangerous. Many of the animals who live on the mountains are located near the bottom in the heavily forested areas that rest there. Bears, Lynx, Geese, Ducks, and other types of beasts all claim it as their home. Higher up the mountain you will find a variety of birds and goats who have accustomed themselves to the rocky terrain being able to climb or soar above the stone.

Ecosystem Cycles

During the summer months as the snow and ice melts away, the wildlife of the region flocks to the lower parts of the mountains to feed upon the abundant plant life of the regions. This leads to an abundance of life at the base of the mountains and an opening into hunting season for certain animals in the later months. Geese are often spotted in large numbers during the summer months to feed on the abundant plant life. Bears breaks from hibernation and wander around the mountain ranges, and packs of wolves sometimes enter the region at this time to hunt the newcomers. Karquaza are also found here during the summer months as they prey on those unfortunate enough to be near the rivers. Dragons who live on the mountains peaks have also been seen very rarely flying away with some sort of meal in their claws. During the winter months, some creatures move away down south to enjoy a warmer summer. Some move back in to reap some bounties of the Agre basin in the midst of winter, and some sleep the winter away in their caves or prowl around the winter landscape.
