Kaynağı Toprak

(Turkish) Source Soil

Kaynağı Toprak is a underwater cave system located in the depths of the Dreibein Meer. It was formed from the great mine that was the epicenter of Bauen culture (Elemental) - from this place the Bauen built the foundation of the world.

Geography

The cave system is a complex network of hewn tunnels and caverns within the bedrock of the world. Most of the area is flooded with salt water creating a mineral rich brine perpetually illuminated by pockets of semi-excavated crystals (Glühkristall) that emit an eerie bluish glow.   The surfaces of the cave network vary from rough work earth to intricately sculpted stonework. Some areas appear frozen in time while others appear smoothed over by eons of erosion.

Ecosystem

A variety of photosynthetic life manages to survive by the crystallic light providing enough algae and bacterial life to support other organisms.

Localized Phenomena

The characteristics of the cave network changes depending on the flow of water and presense of crystals in the area.

Areas with Flowing Water & Glühkristall

These areas are likely filled with murky water awash with a mix of sediment and algae blooms. Surfaces may be pock marked or smooth from years of erosion, depending on its material. Mundane, photosynthetic plant life floats in the water with the heartiest plant life having long, thin stalks with strong root systems keeping in secure. Herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores may be present although, unless a creature can cling to a surface, it is likely hiding in a hole or under ledge to let it rest, procreate, or wait for passing prey.

Areas with Stagnant Water & Glühkristall

Near-crystal clear water fills chambers whose surfaces are relatively unchanged from their original state. Plant life is likely abundant and mundane (although some plants use poison or acid to kill plant eating predators or adjacent plantlife so they can grow larger). Plants are more likely to grow in soft soil and be broader/larger in size. Herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores are likely present and freely moving unless resting or threatened.

Areas with Flowing Water but no Glühkristall

These areas are likely filled with murky water awash with a mix of sediment and the gore of partially-consumed fauna. Surfaces may be pock marked or smooth from years of erosion, depending on its material. The limited plant-life in the area is probably carnivourous, cannabalistic, or both, relying on acid and its long, thin stalks and strong root systems to ensnare and digest its prey. Herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores may be present in smaller quantities and have features to survive aggressive fauna and each other. Unless a creature can cling to a surface, it likely drifts on the current or swims continuously.

Areas with Stagnant Water but no Glühkristall

Crystal clear water that is highly likely to be acidic, poisonous (lack of Oxygen), or both, fills unblemished chambers that consumes metals and minerals for breakfast. Plant life being carnivourous or cannibalistic and capable of defending itself is near certain. Equally lethal creatures dwell in these depths as the apex predators of the deep sea driven only by the desire to feed.

Natural Resources

Along with potential remnants of Bauen society and the aforementioned luminous crystals, all types of stone, ore, metals, and gems are in various stages of excavation and processing throughout the cave system.

History

Kaynağı Toprak was created by the Brucaire (Elemental) around the third of Dört Göz.   Together the Tafe), the Buro, and the Bauen, and the Brucaire created the world. Within Kaynağı Toprak, the Bauen created and harvested the earth to set the foundation of the world and building upon it, filling it with metals, gems, mountains, and crevasses under the direction of Konig Desdrecks.   The Bauen mined out great reams of the world and hauled the raw clay, coal, and ore to the Brucaire to make bricks and refined materials. The Bauen laid out the bricks in a great mosaic to create the world's footing and erected larger, more ornate structures for the Elemental as materials grew more refined and stronger.   The Bauen carved out areas for the ocean and seas, and the lakes and the streams for the Tafe. They made the hills to give Tafe's rain a place from which to flow, and they decorated the earth with caves and valleys for the Buro to play and explore the depths and built mountain upon mountain so the Buro could propel themselves ever closer to the heavens.
