Session 13: A Bridge Too Dark

General Summary

The party spends the night in the rickety barricade at the split in the path. A quiet night passes and they choose to proceed towards the path that says "Certain Death."   They enter a wide cavern which seems to be about 80-90 feet wide. In front of them 10-feet into the room all they are able to see is pure blackness. On the walls on either side there are torches of blue flame which are the only thing that appears to illuminate the magical darkness. Unfortunately, each only illuminates a 5-foot radius.   The party tries other methods of illuminating the darkness but it appears only the blue flames have any effect. They locate two bridges in the darkness, one on each end of the 90 foot platform on which they stand.   Xenik takes the torch onto the bridge but the rest of the party can no longer see him after 10ft. Arlox tries to bring the other torch across the platform to the party but at a certain spot, both flames are extinguished. Arlox takes his torch back to the wall where it hung and both flames re-ignite.   The party spends a significant amount of time strategizing how to cross this chasm and even longer executing the plan. They fail to recognize that the torches must stay a certain distance from eachother or they will go out. Through some lucky timing they are able to finally make it across the chasm without any mishaps.   Exhausted from the effort they choose to take a short rest. They continue on, despite not knowing how far it is to Gogh Ulum and find themselves in a cavern that evokes a feeling of a forest due to the huge number of stalactites and stalagmites.   The party chooses to camp for the night and sets up a watch rotation. During the second watch, Laz notices a stalactite move, and wakes Xenik and Qira.   A vicious fight erupts as not one, but two Ropers appear and attack the party. The party struggles with the many tentacles and several of the members spend much of their time grappled. Despite their troubles they eventually prevail.   The party loots the ropers and finishes their nights rest. In the morning, they continue on.   As mid-day approaches they begin to see signs of habitation. A large tower emerges around a bend in the cavern. It is more than 4 stories high and adorned like Clan Bloodmantle of the Duregar, know by Laz to make Gogh Ulum its home. As the party approaches, all appears quiet. Laz knows of the Clan Blood Mantle but the Drow and Duregar don’t get along so his information is limited.   Standing before this large tower, the session ends.
