Midbridge

Originally constructed during an extended period of peace between the Dalkori Empire and the Kirinian Empire, Midbridge is aptly named.  It consists of two fairly large platforms, extending from the north and south sides of the bridge, approximately halfway across.  Merchants of the Silken Satchel set up a city of tents, some quite lavish and seemingly permanent, to facilitate trade amongst and between people from all across Ankaluun.

Government

No true government, the place is administrated by the Silken Satchel who contract mercenaries to act as an independent policing force.

Defences

The area is policed by an independent force created from mercenaries and paid for by the Silken Satchel.  Several ballistas are perched on the edges of platforms, below the top so as to not frighten the customers, but to protect the place from a potential attack via air pirates.  Ground attacks could only come from one of the empires and it is presumed that if one or the other chose to start hostilities via the bridge that the merchants would quickly vacate the premises or lock themselves in the rooms below the platforms.

Infrastructure

Each platform sticks out from the bridge quite a ways and is supported by giant arches below.  Several passageways and rooms are built into the foundation of each platform and connect the two platforms together below the surface of the bridge itself.

Assets

For all of its tents and other outward indications of impermanence, Midbridge could easily be considered an independent city in its own right.  The city itself has no assets but many of the more prosperous merchants here find that they can make significantly more coin than within either empire.  The presumed danger of meeting regular with the potential "enemy" as well as the somewhat erroneous perception of discomfort causes most merchants to only visit Midbridge briefly.  Those that choose to stay and become more permanent fixtures in this community find that they are able to quickly become wealthy and comfortable.
