Forest Deep

Buried deep in the Valralei Forest lies the elven city of Forest Deep.  The largest collection of forest elves in the world, Forest Deep is a a significantly insular society with an almost stereotypically suspicion of outsiders.  It is entirely populated by forest elves and no people of any other species have been allowed to reside there in over 600 years.

Government

Forest Deep is a gerontocratic society more akin to tribalism than the monarchy that exists around it in Kirinor.  It's Council of Elders is in charge of all matters political and legal throughout the city and the forested surroundings.

Defences

Aside from the single road that allows access to the city, the trees themselves act as an almost impenetrable barrier for any attackers.  The wood elves can easily melt into the trees and counter-attack on their own terms which gives any invading force an almost insurmountable disadvantage.  Large ballista are sprinkled throughout the city in locations that have clear sight lines to obvious paths of invasion in case an enemy is resourceful enough to bypass all the natural obstacles.

Industry & Trade

The elves are incredibly insular and very little trade with outsiders takes place within Forest Deep.  Its residents make trips to Farkill when they need to meet and trade with the world outside the forest.  The elves possess powerful magics and sometimes will sell alchemical substances or enchanted weapons or armor.

Infrastructure

Constructed in harmony with the trees, many of the dwellings in the city are built within the trees and between them.  With the elegant grace that is typical of elven architecture, Forest Deep is both beautiful and rarely visited.  A single road traverses the Valralei Forest and passes close enough to Forest Deep to be considered the "main road."  The Deep Lake, not far away is also dotted with small elven villages that are under the auspices of the Council of Elders and are generally considered part of the city itself.
