Elsana

Goddess of peace, healing and maternity, Elsana promotes selfless aid and caring for all others. Most who worship her use violence as a last resort, but fight strongly when forced to. Healers using her guidance are often the greatest physicians in their provinces, as they are given great insight into the proper care and treatment of various conditions.
In addition to these fields, Elsana is heavily featured in most rituals of childbirth and weddings. This is largely due to her very maternal ideals, though titles such as "Matron of Healing" and "Allmother" certainly do not dissuade this appearance.

Tenets of Faith

Kindness and love are the greatest of gifts, and what good is a gift kept to oneself?   If all peoples were to practice common goodwill, it would become the common normal, and the peoples would be better for it.   Love, but do not covet. Help, but do not force.

Holidays

Motherclutch: Set on the 1st of Damegrasp, Motherclutch is a holiday celebrating mothers and other females of importance. It is common to give beloved females small gifts or token of affection, though it very rare for these to be romantic in nature. It is also meant to be a day of general goodwill towards others, so it is common for many services or commodities to be offered for free to those of lower statuses, with food and healing being the most common offerings. Being that this is the first day of the second half of the year, some cultures use as a day for change or the coming of a new dawn, but such practices are less common than the previous ones.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Most depictions of Elsana show her as a full-bodied female humanoid, usually well endowed and glowing with kindness. Her age in these depictions is often up to artist interpretation, though it is far more common to see her older than younger.

Body Features

While she has no constant in regards to specifics of her appearance, Elsana is almost always portrayed as an older woman, often with grey or greying hair and plenty of wrinkles.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Tales and myths regarding Elsana always paint her in a matronly, motherly image. She is often shown settling differences between opposing forces (from frivolous bets between Vrontir and Velara to war-starting conflicts between Sacramanthus and Avaritum) or imparting her wisdom upon those who need it (as either praise, or chastisement). She is also featured in a great many stories as an opposing force to Pestyl and her numerous plagues, with the healing touch of the Alterdame mending what the wicked wit of the Plaguemaker has marred.

Gender Identity

Due to her very motherly attitude and various citations, Elsana is universally pictured as a female in myths and tales.

Intellectual Characteristics

Being that her station pertains more to motherly wisdom over raw intellect, Elsana is only rarely pictured as being greatly intelligent. She is by no means unintelligent though, as she seems to have plenty of platitudes and life-lessons on hold, ready to be used at any needed time.

Morality & Philosophy

While she promotes goodwill and kindness, Elsana is not as beholden to ideals of lawfulness and truth as some of her peers. She understands that sometimes lying is a kinder action than telling truth, just as she knows that laws and tradition can sometimes impair selfless actions. If there was a simple way of describing her motivations, it would be to help others by any means necessary.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Much like other those of other gods, Elsana's saints all focus on on a particular aspect of her beliefs and practices.   Saint Berranor: Dwarven homekeeper and (supposed) partner of Saint Magnar of Arsator, Saint Berranor works to provide for others and ensure the homes of mortals are kept secure and welcoming. She is often called "The Hearthkeeper" for these efforts, and is said to patron those spouses who manage the house while their other half provides for it. She is also the primary reason (supposedly) for all dwarf's penchant for keeping their homes orderly, comfortable, and lacking of outsiders.   Saint Ebele: Pachyfolk saint of healing, the medicinal prowess of Saint Ebele is so great that it is still spoken of to this day. When first anointed, it is said that she traveled the whole of Genaeth and other realms for centuries at a time, learning all she could of medicines and healing practices to as to pass them on to her followers. Many traditional remedies are commonplace because of her, and her most devout are just as much doctors as priests.   Saint Evelyn: Patroness saint of halflings and plenty, the generosity and prosperity of Saint Evelyn seems to have been dispersed to the halfling race at large over the centuries. Often governing fertility and plenty, she is often associated with spring and other instances of great indulgence and birth. Her blessings are also said to improve the fecundity of those who receive them, making expecting parents and midwives among her most prolific devotees.
