Bloodbane
Cross a sorcerer and they might kill you with a cursed object, cross a hedge-witch and they might kill your legacy by cursing your bloodline.
Affliction of the Blood
Curses are not real. Magic can be activated and magic can be transferred. This makes it possible for a mage to activate a negative mystical ability or transfer it from one object to another, but a mage cannot create a specific negative effect from scratch. Bloodbane is a mystical effect inherently present in individuals with a specific type of blood.
When activated, bloodbane causes the affected individual to suffer from whispers of the past, specifically of their ancestors. These whispers can range from just that, whispers, to vivid hallucinations. The few records that exist of people suffering from bloodbane describe a woman hearing the voice of her father criticising her every thought, a cowherd believing himself to be a smith and acting as such, hurting his cattle in the process, and a man who believed himself to be a king.
This type of haunting can cause such a level of stress that the individual develops a series of stress-related conditions. In the worst case scenario, the individual suffers a heart attack. Worse still is the hereditary property of the condition. Hence the statement that a whole bloodline can be cursed.
It is believed that sometime during the thirteenth or fourteenth century a member of House Grinvia offended a trusted hedge-witch or enchanter, who in turn cursed their bloodline. Several members of the royal house suffered from mental maladies and conditions of the heart. This eventually led to the royal bloodline dying out in 1418.

A Most Grievous Offense
Activation of a mystical property only works when the mage has their hands on the object. Thus, for bloodbane to be activated, the mage has to get intimately close with their target. Abduction would work, but more likely is a close relationship.
