Aeroship
Look up. Do you see that white oblong shape? That is the newest aeroship. Maybe we should take one to get to the other side of Aventarle. Seeing the world from above is the most magnificent thing.
Men Yearns for the Sky
The first hot air balloon was envisioned several centuries ago, when an unknown Aventarlan visionary came across the old Utrean tradition of Skylighting. On dark nights, paper lanterns would be sent into the night sky to bring the stars a little closer and to dispel some of the creeping Darkness.
Inspired, the visionary made an interesting sketch of a large paper lantern, a tiny basket below with paper bird wings and tail attached. In the basket sat a tiny person. It would take at least another century, and the right alchemical and scholastic advancements, to make aerial flight possible, but that didn’t stop people from fantasising.
Next to hot air, earth gas was used to fill the aeroballoon, but it was the discovery of lightness gas by the famous Garyialan alchemist Warnu in 1507 that really propelled aeroballoon design forward. Lightness gas turned out to be lighter than earth gas, and most importantly, non-flammable. Its usability for aviation was instantly acknowledged and with ingenious adjustments to the latest model of the earth gas balloon, the lightness gas balloon was designed. This invention came at exactly the right time, for Aventarle was at war with the (in their view) barbaric Imcrian clans, and the lightness gas balloon gave them a staggering advantage.
Over the last decade, aeroships have been modified to such an extent that they are now used for military use, transport of goods and passenger transport. Most aeroships can be found in Aventarle, but several are used for long distance travel between the countries of central Namda.

Aeroballoons
The first recorded manned flight in a hot aeroballoon took place in 1488. After several years of perfecting their design, the Aventarlan brothers Durteau hung a basket below their hot air balloon, took off and reached a considerable height. After this initial success, President Gachèt of the Aventarlan Republic showed great interest in the continuous advancement in aviation, for he saw great potential for military use.Next to hot air, earth gas was used to fill the aeroballoon, but it was the discovery of lightness gas by the famous Garyialan alchemist Warnu in 1507 that really propelled aeroballoon design forward. Steerable Aeroships
Several attempts have been made to add steering and propulsion to aeroballoons, but most had little effect. It was in 1568 that the first steerable aeroship successfully took flight, and only a few years ago, in 1596, that the first fully controllable free flight took place.Over the last decade, aeroships have been modified to such an extent that they are now used for military use, transport of goods and passenger transport.
