Castle Cortés

Castle Cortés, previously the Ashus Castle, is a Shajin castle on the north-western block of the Leylas province that was given to Hernán Cortés in honour of his alliance to the Shajin clan, following their help in recapturing the castle itself from the rebellious Ashus clan. It became a vital position for the Spanish, as it's tactical position near the Shajin capital, as well as its situation close to the Blossom River, gives the Spanish a powerful position on both land and sea.

Alterations

Ever since the awarding of the castle to the Spanish, it now flies the Imperial Spanish flag on the ramparts and now has a Catholic church built within the compartments, which was used as the focal point to bringing Christianity into the continent. It also has been modified with multiple arrowslits where Spanish musketeers and crossbowmen can fire safely, as well as larger ones to house their cannons in case of a siege.

Architecture

The castle, like every other Ocrean castle, is constructed primarily of wood and stone combined of typical Ocrean buildings built like a citadel. It is built in a hill on a very diverse terrain that overlooks the entire valley below it, surrounded by a river moat that slows down anyone who dares to cross it, making the castle a very strategic place in the event of a siege - which was only broken by the use of cannons used by the Spanish.

History

The castle was built on the very border of Blossom River in 1440, entrusted to protect the border from any clans that try to take a shortcut towards the capital. It was previously owned by a former vassal of the Shajin who defected and served their own purpose and was eventually recaptured by the Shajin with the help of the Spanish and their cannons to bring down the walls. Later, it was awarded to the Spanish for their help in the conflict, as well as repayment for subduing the rebellious Jushel, and became a key part in the Spanish colonization, as it is located near the Blossom River which allows the Spanish to import military equipment and weapons to reequip their army.   The reason such a magnificent castle was given to the Spanish is because Lord Shajin failed to ask where they came from, not knowing they come from another continent, and thought the Spanish were travelling nomads with superior weapons, only realizing till later they were part of a strong empire after a second army of Spanish came and were defeated by the first. Since then, the castle has served as the main base for Spanish control on the continent.
