The Spice Kings
In the southern jungles, between the Wild Lands and the Sea stretches a land of plenty, ruled by a score of petty kings. The streets are paved in gold, children use saffron to color their faces, and elephants are ridden as horses are in other lands. It is from these lands that all wealth flows and to it all wealth will return.
Structure
The Spice Kings are a confederation of eight sovereign city states and their surrounding lands. Collective decisions and regulations are decided by majority vote of a senate comprised of representatives of the majority land owners or rulers of each city state. As of this time the senate has nine seats four representing hereditary monarchies, three trade oligarchs, one democratic assembly, and one especially influential pirate captain. Regardless of actual form of government all rulers capable of receiving a seat on the senate are considered "Spice Kings" by most outsiders.
Assets
As their name implies the Spice Kings possess numerous highly valuable endemic spices. These, along with the ivory of their elephants and the strength of their navies, forms the basis of Tassil economic power. They possess the most powerful navy in the western seas and have complete control over the only functional canals to reach the Inland Sea from the open Ocean. This control of over ocean trade has led to the Spice Kings' status as the most wealthy nation in Occidentia despite their relatively small size.
