The Hundred Tyrants
Lying between the heartlands of Capetia and and Daqin is a region of flat grasslands dotted by hundreds of independent city states. Each of these states are ruled by a despot or oligarchy with an iron fist. These tyrants are each possessed of magical power but lack the ability to exert this power much beyond their city walls.
Geography
Every lord within the Hundred Tyrants seems himself as uniquely destined for greatness and total control over the whole of Occidentia. They wage near constant war against all of their neighbors and even occasionally look to challenge the great empires of Capetia and Daqin. This has scared the land with craters, great burn paths, and magical contaminates, marring its sweeping golden hills. Now there are spontaneous fires, endless fields of mud, and vast clouds of strange and dangerous magical weather.
Fauna & Flora
Decades of warfare have left the Hundred Tyrants rich in corpses and debris, leading to a proliferation of scavengers large and small. Even species that normally attack live prey or herbivores who browse the plains grasses, will now gorge on the flesh of fallen men whether they be dead or merely wounded. All but the heartiest plant life has been driven to extinction.
Of particular note are the chimeras and other hybrid animals created to serve in ancient wizard kings' armies. These creatures had no peer in the natural world and none of the land's despots are capable of controlling more than a small number of the hundreds sleeping beneath the land through the Age of Slumber. As such each hill, ditch, and pound has the chance to house some horrible beast unknown to the natural world.
