Tarraconensis
South of the neck of Ys is a land of sharp spiked pillars and stone hills. Its people still live as family clans, whose mole castles are carved from the bones of the earth. By tradition they worship strange eyeless gods, and honor a prince who rules from their holy mountain. By modern practice however they worship the Righteous Pantheon, as a concession to their current liege lord the Mithratic Knights. Few alive remember the Tarrens as a free people but all now know them for their hatred of all outsiders. The only differentiation being their more specific hate for the Mithratic Knights and all things Legaran. The only thing that will save an outsider from execution when captured by Tarren partisans is a mutual Legaran enemy.
Structure
As a result of present events Tarrraconensis is ruled in name by the Patriarch of the Lacetani, for his surrender of to the Mithratic Knights during their crusade against the Tarren pagans some five decades ago. He is given privilege to tax his fellow tribes and speak on behalf of the the Tarren territories with their overlord, but that is as far as his power extends.
The Prince of Tarraconensis is and remains Algernon the Hairy, steward of the Holy Mountain. He remains in hiding from the Knights, and leads a guerilla resistance against their heathen occupation. To this end his soldiers blind themselves with gauze or even nails to prove their devotion to their eyeless gods, and receive a higher sight. All tribes save the Lacetani, are sympathetic to the steward's cause and covertly supply them in food, weapons, and shelter.
