The Cut

Between the North and South Barriers, the Aegion River flows through a deep canyon and down a massive waterfall into the lowlands below. Both the ravine and the town that sits in it are called The Cut. The town is an important stop along the river, as boats cannot pass and cargo must be carried along a path that switches back and forth along the cliffs. The Cut is considered to mark the western edge of The Rift.   As the Aegion is incredibly wide for most of its length, it is difficult to bridge in most locations. The river narrows at the Cut, and there is an old Aurean bridge built there, which looks impressive enough on its own as it towers over the river near the waterfall. It is all the more impressive as it is the only bridge downstream of the city of Pakator in Shakara, hundreds of miles to the east.
