Kendaria Village
The Village that Laughs
Kendaria Village is a small village on the coastal edge of the Laughing Forest. The forest stretches from the base of the Glimmeridge Mountains down to the coast. While the village center is near the coastal edge of the forest, the harvesting grounds extend far in toward the mountains. Kendaria Village is the only known exporter of an elementally charged cloth, known as Kendarian Silks. These silks are woven exclusively within the village and are strictly exported through one of Chronwhorl's most prominent merchant families, the Duskarm house. Despite this being the village's only export, the silks are highly sought after and sold for exorbitant prices. Though the sale of silks to the merchant family is a small percent of the profits, it is still enough wealth to keep the entire village wealthy.
The people of Kendaria happened upon their current export by chance. Years of living in the deeper forests close to the mountains exposed them to all manner of creatures that lived within. One curious insect seemingly made of stone and living off the trees created nests of beautiful, shimmering, threads. The villagers began seeking out abandoned nests to unravel and weave into their own silks.
Kendaria village has woven and infused their own silk for almost two hundred years, and guards the secrets of the process closely. The village is not entirely human. Almost all of the villagers were born myth-touched my the time the mines under the mountains had opened a tunnel road, just light of the forest's edge. It was the opening of this mining road that brought the first Duskarm merchant.
While the nature of the village can be understood, the most unsettling experience for visitors is the constant sounds of laughter. Light, chirping, barely audible laughter. Like a child's laugh just too far away to pin down. The sound is constant even when the village sleeps. The disconcerting noise is a regular sound of the forest. In truth, it is the sound of Rock Moths; the stone insects that feed on the bark of the trees. When their joints move it creates the faint sound. It is these same insects that provide the nests that are drawn out into the village's signature silk.

History
Kendaria village has only be come the prosperity it currently enjoys in recent generations. The village was originally a small village of foragers who chose to live at the base of the largest known volcano for the heat it provided to the land. The other side of the mountains were the site of large and wealthy mines. The forests on this side of the mountains were rarely, if ever, explored. The perfect place for tired families no longer interested in the endless wars of the Discerning Gaze. The people of Kendaria happened upon their current export by chance. Visiting Experience
Visitors to the village rarely stay long, as it can be a bit unsettling if you were to visit without knowing what to expect. The wealth in trade means that while the village is small, the individual homes are beautiful and well appointed. The merchant presence in the village is also not very welcoming. The silks crafted in Kendaria are an important resource and any knowledge of their crafting is carefully guarded. The locals also carefully guard their homes and workshops from the merchant family to protect their leverage in trade negotiations. As such, the villagers are welcoming to victors but do not open their homes to anyone. While the nature of the village can be understood, the most unsettling experience for visitors is the constant sounds of laughter.
