Palace of the Empire (ʃizuur ʃoˈobi)

Šizuur Šoobi

The Palace of the Empire (Šizuur Šoobi in arkdhian) is a building in Orkoza where the emperor resides. It is the symbol of the Empire's power on Nys. About a hundred metres high, it is the highest building in the Empire.

Purpose / Function

Around year 230, Emperor Vado Kevič commissioned the construction of a palace that would "show the world how unstoppable the Empire is". After about ten years, the building was finished. Stretching high into the sky, overlooking the city, small at that time, visible from the plains around, it was the most exaggerated and majestic building on Nys in that period.   An imperial decree forbade the construction of buildings higher than the Palace anywhere in the Empire, which is the only reason the clock tower in the Arkadhian Institute of Technology isn't higher. If a newly annexed territory contained a taller building, it would have to be destroyed.   The original project expanded the preexisting house of the Emperor to make it suitable for a leader of such political relevance and to give the Empire a concrete symbol of its power. Interestingly, at the time of construction, the so-called Arkadhian New Empire barely controlled the Arkadhian region and was not an empire in the slightest.

Alterations

To further claim and display power over nations, the Emperor decreed that every time a new region was conquered, a new room would be added to the Palace with spoils of the enemy. Statues, paintings, pieces of buildings, high-ranked officers' weapons and many relevant objects for the conquered people now lay in forgotten rooms inside the Palace. What counted as a new region was purposedly unclear so that the Empire could keep adding rooms to the building whenever a territory was annexed, no matter how small.   During millennia, the Palace grew steadily and neatly, giving people a sense of fulfilment, as if they were born to ensure the reconstruction of the old empire. The propagandistic goal of emperor Vado Kevič and the militaristic and expansionistic effect the building exerts on people are still active and far from fading away.
