Treasury of the Grand Empire of Nuggia
The Treasury of the Grand Empire of Nuggia is one of the Mandatory Nuggian Departments, and is the National Treasury of the Grand Empire of Nuggia. It is responsible for accounting and managing the national budget of the Grand Empire of Nuggia, as well as the collection of taxes for Nuggia. The department is administered by the Secretary of the Treasury, one of the Nuggian Secretaries.
As one of the Mandatory Departments, its existance is required by the Nuggian Constitution. The Secretary of the Treasury is also a member of the Nuggian Cabinet.
History
Federal Period
The Nuggian Treasury was officially established on April 16th, 2456 in a law by the Federal Congress which also established the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Empire of Nuggia, War Department of the Nuggian Republic, Justice Department of the Grand Empire of Nuggia, and Department of Internal Affairs.The Parks Affair
The Parks Affair was an embezzlement scandal that broke into public attention with a 2648 expose by Caldea Smith published in the Nuggian Times. It showed that Antoni Parks, a cousin of Isabella I, the then king, had been embezzeling funds from the military as well as the state pension and health care service. This was known by the then monarch and had received tacit permission from her. The scandal lead to a restructuring of the treasury to minimize the influence of the monarch. In the new constitution that followed the crisis, many key appointments in the government had been taken away from the monarch and alloted to the Head Secretary of the Grand Empire of Nuggia.Responsibilities
