Bakirid Caliphate

Historical Basis: Abbasid Caliphate
Patience is praiseworthy save in what prejudices the faith or renders sovereignty contemptible, and moderation is commendable except at the season of opportunity. -Amaan Al-Bakir
The Bakirid Caliphate was founded in 4206 AE by Amaan Al-Bakir after leading a successful revolution, the Bakirid Revolution, against the Usami Caliphate. There was pervasive discontent with the Usmani among the public which led to widespread support of the revolution. The Bakir clan secretly led this movement, keeping their true intentions and involvement hidden from the public until the time came for them to ascend to the throne.   The Caliphate is ruled by a Caliph, a hereditary monarch, that acts as head of the state. The position is largely ceremonial, however, they do have the sole authority to appoint/remove a Grand Vizier who officially operates as the head of government. The current Caliph Rahim ibn Malik Al-Bakir is a man in his early 30s (still a child by modern standards), a handsome and charismatic individual who is admired and loved by the majority of his people. However, he is thought of as a somewhat weak and ineffectual ruler. Many scholars and outside sources believe him to be a puppet of his Grand Vizier, allowing her free reign of the Caliphate. The Grand Vizier, Munya bint Nasira, is a middle-aged woman (134) often described as devastatingly beautiful. She is the calm, calculated, and sometimes cruel true leader of the Caliphate. This is the second Al-Bakir Caliph that Munya has served.

Military

The Caliphate's military is often labeled as disorganized and spread too thin. They rule the largest territory within the known galaxy and as such defending and patroling their borders demands tremendous amounts of manpower. They boast more enlisted individuals than all of the neighboring nations, however, if you compare the percentage to the territory they control they are one of the weakest. As a result the Caliphate has extensive contracts with various private military organizations such as Varangians and the Archura Defense Force.

Magi/Djinn

The Caliphate has one clear advantage militaristically, Magi. They have extensively invested in the training of magic users within their borders with the majority focusing on abjuration or restoration magic. They also boast some of the most powerful combat mages in the known galaxy, the highest among them known as Djinn. The Djinn are mages who focus primarily in elemental magic with the vast majority specialing in a singular element.

Trade & Transport

The Caliphate has extensive trade relations with nearly every sovereign nation-state in the galaxy. Thanks to its central location and friendly attitude they have become incredibly wealthy. They have a focus on energy and defense technology. There is also an extensive trade of medical/alchemical goods within the Caliphate. They import raw products and export finished medicines or alchemical concoctions.

Education

Madrasa (School)

An educational institution. It is mandatory that all children born within the Caliphate attend a local madrasa until they sucessfully complete their education.

House of Wisdom

At the highest levels, prospective students are recruited by the House of Wisdom (Collegiate level-Graduate level). The academy is primarily only available to people of the Caliphate, however, recently they have included a special division that accepts foreign applicants. This has met with some push back by alumni.
