The Watchtower of the North

The Watchtower of the North is the northern magical outpost. Built in an ancient cliff, once guarded by the Gnomide, thousands of years later it is one of the last monuments to the world that exists before The Sealing. After the extinction of the gnomes during the war with the East, the Watchtower was left to ruin.   Still, the ancient rock juts high in the air, visible for miles.

Purpose / Function

The ancient purpose of the Northern Watchtower was to serve as an outpost for the Gnomide defenses, as well as the northern conduit between the Supernal and Mundane realms.

Alterations

Very little is publicly known about who or what is continuing to keep the rock from crumbling. Still, when the Quarters are called, someone or something always answers.

After the extinction of the gnomide, Bhu takes it upon himself to keep the Watchtower maintained. Despite his shortcomings, he sees himself as the Guardian of the Watchtower by default. There are obvious places in the tower where his subpar alterations and repairs have been made, but he does his best to preserve the artistry of the original structure.

Architecture

A stone tower built into the side of a cliff at the edge of the North, overlooking the Western sea. The architectural style is one of the few remaining examples of the artistic and building capabilities of the gnomide people. Their method of drawing rock from their surroundings can be seen in the ornamentation of the tower, which itself is more like a sculpture--carved from the rock, rather than built upon it.

History

In ancient times, the elected Guardian of the Watchtower observed rites both in the Mundane and Supernal realms. They also served as a sort of symbolic figurehead from the seat of the Watchtower, but had no real individual power.
[br} In modern times, the Watchtower is an abandoned ruin, but still holds some symbolic mystical power.
