Tor Karrick Settlement in Nora | World Anvil

Tor Karrick

Capital of the Dwehrlen
Tor Karrick, also known as the City of Industry, Deign's Anvil, and the Birthplace of Metal, is the large capital of the Dwehrlen kingdoms under the Worldspine. It is here, deep in the belly of the mountain, where it is said that Deign drew up magma from the core of Nora and created the first forge from which he created the great weapons and armor of the gods. When he created the Dwehrlen sometime afterwards they made a mass pilgrimage to this location and deemed it to be the holiest site of their people. Where their creator forged his legacy, so shall they create their own. Blessed by the great God Smith himself, they forged themselves a city out of iron and steel that would stand as a proud testament to their capabilities.   Most notably in the city is their first and proudest landmark - Deign's Anvil. While the god did not leave any of his actual tools behind for his people, they built a massive central building in the shape of an anvil as a tribute to him, as they believed their god to be as large as the mountain itself, and would need a forge to match. The first Dwehrlen priests used their prayers and Divine Magicks in combination with early Magi to permanently altar the flow of the lava that poured from up from the floor of the cavern. The lava was forced into a series of channels that ran up the anvil, back down through the interior and throughout the remainder of the cavern. Inside of the anvil, the lava passes through a series of forges beginning at the top floor before illuminating the Hall of Heroes that displays statuaries of champion Dwehrlen throughout the years.   Ahead of Deign's Anvil is a road for buildings of public service; guard barracks, law offices, postal service, stables and more are all here for convenient access by citizens and visitors alike. Beyond this road lies many different market houses and guild forums before reaching the residential district for the Dwehrlen that call Tor Karrick their home. The mundane blacksmiths set up their shops and forges here to practice their work and commerce. While not as prestigious as the Magismiths within the anvil, they still play an important role to the city's success.
Den of Magismiths

"Our beautiful home is one forged by the hands of our devout founders. By the hands that have made this city, so shall we continue to see it prosper. Ours is a life of metal; of hard work, of sweat, and of the gratitude we have to our creator. We have forged and hammered metal in fashions not thought possible outside the realms of the gods, and forever shall we strive to reach ever closer to their divinity." - Yulgo Steelback, Magismith of the Anvil
If Tor Karrick is known for anything beyond Deign's Anvil, it is for the powerful and renowned Magismiths that work inside of it. Deign's Anvil is said to be the home of the most gifted Magismiths among the Dwehrlen and, quite possibly, the world. More legendary works can trace their origin to these forges than any other. Heroes, mercenaries, and collectors the world over have travelled or sent ambassadors to commission custom works from the Magismiths within. They work tirelessly, and it is said that since the inception of the anvil and it's facilities, there has never been an hour where it hasn't resonated with the strikes of forge hammers.   Most Dwehrlen are not gifted in Arcane Magicks in the traditional sense of their ability to alter space around them or control the elements. A majority of gifted Magick users in the Dwehrlen are prominent for their Divine affinity with Deign; the Magismiths within the anvil are all priests and acolytes of his worship, and infuse their works with his divinity. One of the key features of a Magickal Apparatus of Dwehrlen make are the runes inscribed upon it, of which all are prayers to Deign in the Dwehrlish language. Tor Karrick has the highest population of blacksmiths and fabricators of any city that can be found on the surface of Nora and the entire culture of the city is build around it.
Trade-fueled Industry
The high presence of smiths, both magickal and mundane, has led to a flourishing economy for the city. Raw materials are brought in from Gromstrelm and the surrounding mining tunnels to be supplied by and for Dwehrlen workers. Foreign materials, particularly Magick Stones, are imported through Tor Karrick as well through the various trade markets that lie surrounding the public service buildings. While the mining and living ventures of the Dwehrlen require a steady supply of tools from the city, the grand majority of the works are for outside clients. Beyond the arms and armors requested of the Magismiths lie the technological advancements of the Dwehrlen that are commonly called upon for their skill and adaptation. Their mastery over metal has caused many ambitious inventors to make the pilgrimage to Tor Karrick in hopes of finding a smith skilled or brave enough to accomplish their whimsical designs.
