Enhancer

Enhancers is the name given to a group of stimulants that enhance a person's psionic powers. They work by stimulating the release of neurotransmitters or hormones that are connected to the user's powers. Unlike other drugs, they aren't as addictive, but are still dangerous as they trigger the continuous release of certain neurotransmitters. Many regular users developed neurological disorders or were unable to properly control their powers as a result of continuously using enhancers.

Effect

Humanoids & Half-Humans

Once the drugs are taken, the person will feel energised and have a faster reaction time. The effects then start to differ, depending on the person's powers, health and the drug itself. With most Elemental Powers, the person will quickly find they can release larger bursts of their power. For people with other powers, they soon realise that they can't control their powers as precisely, because their powers have been enhanced.

Humans

Humans often take these drugs in an attempt to get powers, but their efforts are often in vain. Instead of getting powers, humans enhance their reaction times and flight-or-fight responses. They also find themselves happier, as they release more dopamine into their bodies. However, they'll also find themselves more hyperactive, hypersensitive, and may develop neurological disorders if they take enhancers regularly.

History

When Humanoids left Quadrilore, they brought many materials and plants with them. One of these plants was the Ergos Plant, which had minerals that stimulated the release of hormones. This plant was used as a medicine by Healers, Warlocks and Chronokines.

20th Century

However, by the 20th century, the plant had been grown in so many places across the Earth, notably where humanoid gangs operated. Governments tried to crack down on this, but at the time, most of these plants were actually safe to use. This meant governments were met with opposition from healthcare professionals, for "creating a fictional problem" and apparently not caring about the needs of their humanoid citizens. Drug dealers, gangs and opportunists were able to use this opposition to their advantage, and continued to grow these plants.

21st Century

At the start of the 21st century, the Global Pallorin learned that more dangerous versions of the plant had been grown on a mass scale, and were being used in illegal drugs and even some medicines. Many scientists soon realised that these illegal drugs targeted the release of neurotransmitters, rather than hormones. But by then, these drugs were being sold in most places, so it was getting harder to determine which ones were dangerous. The only solution the Global Pallorin had was to stop the sale of these medicines, so less people got hurt.   However, those still looking for a temporary boost in their powers, or those who needed the medicine turned to drug dealers, merchants and others for them. So the drugs are now only found on the black market, or in hidden humanoid markets (like the Southern Markets).
