Hippocampus
The Hippocampus was the Beast of Eternal Optimism that inhabited Lake Ptandrus in the Cordu region of Veilra. In appearance, it resembled a green creature with the front half of a horse and the back half of an armor-plated sturgeon.
To secure a blessing of primal magic from the Hippocampus, an individual needed to collect five stones (or about 100 pounds) of the freshwater urchins that have become a nuisance species to the Lake ecosystem and present them as a gift to the Hippocampus. The urchins are native to the region, but a decrease in numbers of their primary predators, the Ptandrus silt otter, has resulted in a dramatic increase in their population to the point that they have overwhelmed other native lake species. Upon receiving the gift of urchins, the Hippocampus would crack open a single urchin from the collection and present its meat to the chosen one. Upon eating the offering, the blessing would be imparted.
The Hippocampus was one of the most beloved Beasts Eternal in Veilra, and its death in 1932 VT is considered one of the greatest tragedies in modern memory. The body of the great Beast washed ashore on the pebble beach north of the Cordu town of Adriana on the 12th morning of Madry. The Hippocampus' cause of death is still debated, as there no clear evidence of foul play was visible on its body, but locals suspect agents of the Glinting Maw since their actions have been traced to the deaths of several other Veilran Beasts.
Since it's death, the Lake Ptandrus urchin population has spiraled out of control, driving away nearly all the remaining native species in the body of water. But many optimistic souls in Cordu refuse to give up on the lake and continue to collect the urchins even if the Hippocampus is no longer there to thank them for their efforts.
