Silt otters, carnivorous mustelids that inhabit the inlets and coves of Lake Ptandrus. They have thick fur on their paws that allow them to safely handle the freshwater urchins that are their favored prey, and they are immune to the mild venom found in the urchins' spines. Silt otters den in elaborate burrows they dig in the silty banks of mud along the lake coast.
Lake urchins, freshwater invertebrates with spiny exoskeletons capable of delivering a painful venomous sting to those who disturb them. The delicate flesh inside the urchin is considered quite good eating and is celebrated in numerous Cordu recipes. In recent history, the urchin population has spiraled out of control due to a decline in silt otter numbers.
