Qualifications
The King appoints all Barons of the Kingdom and are usually served through many generations. In those cases where no heir can be had a king can appoint another lower noble or worthy member of the community to the rank of Baron.
Requirements
The Lord Barron is usually appointed after the father's death and continues through the first male born child. In the case of no heir being established, the first female heir becomes the Baroness and holds the power until a male heir is established.
Appointment
Only the King of Mesean can create new Baronies, and is usually given to a knight or person of great interest who benefits the kingdom in some way.
Duties
The Lord Barron's duties include establishing the Kings law and upholding it. Being the judicial arm in the Barony and over seeing any major crimes committed throughout the territory. Keeping relationships with the guilds, and providing military and financial resources to the King.
Responsibilities
The Baron oversee the running of the Barony and his estates and all Barony controlled resources which include several iron ore mines and silver mines. Responsible for maintaining order and establishing training for the town/village guards and local militia.
Benefits
the Lord Baron collects taxes and goods from the surrounding villages in Highwall and pays a fief to the King of Mesean.
Accoutrements & Equipment
the Highwall Barony uses a signet ring for identifying documents and orders, as well as marked and recorded in the historical ledger of Highwall.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
In rare cases a Baron can be disposed or removed and all titles stripped from him. Usually the King has this authority to do so, though there have been times where the Villages of the Barony have rebelled against him.
History
The history of Lord Baron and the Baronies stretches back over 1300 years, and some think even further. Lord Barons have fought in all of the wars in the Kingdom usually as lower rank military. Each Lord Baron's history is recorded in the Baronies Historical book of reference. The First Orc War is the first recording of Lord Baron's fighting for king and country
Cultural Significance
The Lord Baron impacts the Barony on a large scale dictating villages laws, taxes, and harvest owed to the Crown. Many in the Highwall area see Lord Baron Hornraven as a just and fair man, kind to his people when given the opportunity, and gracious in times of need.
Notable Holders
Lord Baron Horick Uthsan, Lord Baron Ven Dol' Arc, Lord Baron Meln Bryis are among the few notable Lord Barons to hold the title and even becoming ledgends amongst the people of Mesean.
