Shilas Settlement in Nilam | World Anvil

Shilas

The westernmost city in Lethennor, Shilas is not only the westernmost city in its nation, it's also the westernmost city in all of Efaanu (unless one counts the fiery citadels of Jornheriheim, which many do not).   Due to its relative isolation and unimportance in the larger scheme of things Shilas has mostly avoided the spotlight of history and war. It was one of the first cities to accept Loxodon refugees during the fall of Yiron, and as such was a hub of religious activity in its early days. It was also the first to openly begin building temples to Sulanar after the fall of the Atkorian Empire.   The city is now mostly known for its massive central tower which serves as the home order hall for The Prismatic Order, one of the lesser known Knightly Orders until a member of their order was elected as the current Monarch of the entire nation.   With the Prismatic Order mostly being relocated to Aakan with the election of Zefri Cloris, the city has become bereft of its normal guardians.

Government

The city is overseen by the Prismatic Order, one of the Knightly Orders of Lethennor. The order is known for its vibrant and colorful armor, as well as their colorful personalities. While the Prismatic Order has mostly avoided the notice of history (much like Shilas itself), they are a well beloved knightly order in the city for both their constant protection against raiding beasts and creatures of the Western Heartlands and Southern Foothills.

Defences

The city is defend by a ring of wall around its core, and the outskirts and inside of the city are defended by a combination of the Prismatic Order and the local City Watch. Since the Prismatic Order has relocated to Aakan as is custom when a member of their order becomes Monarch the City Watch has been pushed further to defend both the internal city from criminals and the external city from raiders and beasts.

Industry & Trade

The city enjoys un-contested fishing of the west coast, especially Purple Lobster, a local delicacy. In addition the region provides amble farming and cultivated land.

History

The city was originally a tribe of local humans that became more settled a few centuries before the arrival of the Atkorians. The Atkorians took the simple village and built it up into a city resembling something closer to what it is today.   The city was one of the first to accept Loxodon refugees openly, drawing the ire of the Atkorian Empire (though not its wrath). And it was one of the first to openly allow worship of Sulanar after the fall of the Atkorians.   The city mostly stayed out of the rebellions against the Carlegnian's until the end, as they were removed from the conflict due to their relative isolation.   More recently the Prismatic Order, the Knightly Order that rules over the region, had their Knight Exemplar (second in command) elected as Monarch of Lethennor in a truly stunning election. Since then, as is tradition, all but a few of the order have left for Aakan to join their Monarch and fellow Knight.

Architecture

The city is known for its clean cut stone and towering central tower, which is the Knightly Order Hall of the Prismatic ORder.

Geography

The city lies on the Shilasian River that pours out of the Porla Lake further inland, and is surrounded by either sea water on the shore or fertile and arable lands around it.

Natural Resources

The city has ample farming communities around it, and a healthy (and un-contested) fishing industry in the sea. It is somewhat known for its Purple Lobsters, a shellfish delicacy in the area.
