Watson Baidyep (bye-DYEP)

Watson Baidyep and his twin brother were born in Atlinthaia in 1728. He discovered the Crown Staff of Dusk at age nineteen and became an infamous Athlinthaian rebel who tried to overthrow the government.

Early Years

As a child, Watson and his brother faced extensive rumors that their mother, a local teacher, had a fondeness for sleeping with the parents of her students, and that their parentage was in question. Though Watson put little stock in these rumors, they made his brother uneasy until, when the twins were sixteen, Watson's brother left their home, claiming he could no longer put up with their mother's secrets. Watson never reunited with his brother, though he did learn of his death many years later.

Discovery of the Staff

As Watson reached adulthood, he followed his father into the locksmithing trade. It was in his line of work that he discovered the Crown Staff of Dusk. Upon helping a client open a barn with a rusted lock, he saw the box of the staff--the only thing in the barn which looked new. When he asked about the box, the client didn't know what he was talking about until Watson touched it. Immediately, the client recognized the staff as having chosed Watson, and so he kept it.

Rebellion

After discovering the staff, Watson's power as a truth wizard grew. Though he had never doubted his parents, but he learned the truth of his parentage--that his parents had an open relationship with other willing partners, and they weren't positive who Watson's biological father was. He began to turn his truth magic on other people on the community, exposing secrets and corruption in the government, particularly among the ruling families. After learning the secret of a mass a grave where suspected Een traitors had been killed and buried during the Southern Conflict, he declared the ruling families should no longer have authority and tried to overthrow them. When his coup attempt failed, he fled the country in order to save his life.
